The Dead thread - God sorts 'em out!

My thoughts exactly. My favorite band from college. Not unexpected but still too soon. Just couldn't kick the hard drugs.

Saw STP in 96 or so with a few other friends in high school. I remember being packed in near the front of the crowd no room to move and when they started playing Trippin on a hole... I started jumping up and down, didn't have much room to do anything else. Pretty soon the whole pit area was following along. It was at their peak creatively I'd say. They put on one of the best shows I'd seen. Tight performance and Scott's stage presence was amazing. The one weird thing was after the show I ran into some clearly underage girls squealing about the backstage passes someone gave them.

I think they were unfairly characterized as being derivative of the Seattle sound.

Yeah, he's pretty dead. I'm not surprised, although it still sucks.
I have to ask what is' pretty dead'? I don't know why but it made me wonder what 'dead' isn't dead?
Pretty dead is a thing where I work - the person isn't technically dead (asystolic), but may have nil chance at recovery either cardiac (limping along on an epi drip) or neurologically (brain dead).

For that, we are grateful.

Yep, I am the common man. :) My parents were both EMTs, and taught courses, but a good lot of the professional terms never made it into my knowledge. :o

Someone posted a link on FB that I shared about being a nurse's kid. My kid thought it was on the money. THe one that cracked me up was

[7. Medical terminology is their terminology. My daughter doesn't say she has "bad poops." She will come to me and say she has diarrhea. Then she'll tell me what color it is, and what she ate before getting her upset stomach. And she's 9] Recently my father had something happen when lil' was over his house. When I talked to lil' it sounded like he was giving report (a very good, detailed report complete in modified SOAP format!!!)

Just enough medical knowledge to be truly dangerous. ;)

He died of hypothermia???? I guess he wasn't wearing good enough gear to keep him warm.

Irony 101.

Apparently he was an interesting dude. Walked away from business and used his money for good.

November 2015 article where he talks about his goal of donating 12 national parks in Patagonia before he dies, and he mentioned the upcoming kayak trip: http://www.outsideonline.com/2031696/21st-century-teddy-roosevelt

I also recommend watching 180 south (it's on Netflix). They spend a bit of time with Doug and Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard on some of Doug's land in South America.

Considering how long he was in 40 degree water he would have needed a water survival suit or something similar. Strange way to go out for a guy that has been on some pretty bad *** adventures.
