The Dead thread - God sorts 'em out!

Re: The Dead thread - God sorts 'em out!

Thank you for that, du78. Listening to Jerry's on-air comments, it is not too difficult to put a voice to some of the things he posted here. It is clear his professional associates considered his crustiness as an endearing quality, and some of that is showing through here.

I'm laughing as I type this. He sounds like the uber-conservative member of the morning show I just joined. Crusty is good for a radio talk show host. ;)

Goodbye, indeed! :D

Re: The Dead thread - God sorts 'em out!

I feel like I just lost an old friend. Reading the news that Old Pio has left us has saddened my day.
His knowledge of history, movies, and his vocabulary were impressive. His sense of humor--truly unique, even if caustic at times.
Had a premonition that something was wrong when he didn't comment on the flood at Magness that brought an end to the ugly, despised, squashed jelly donut/cowpie/failure of a logo on the rug in the hockey locker room.

He certainly would not like to be likened to a John Kennedy biography, but if I may paraphrase, "Old Pio, we hardly knew ye."
Gone too soon.

Re: The Dead thread - God sorts 'em out!

This news really sucks. When I hadn't seen OP in the political threads, I checked his activity and noticed that he seemed to have just stopped posting, without anything indicating that he was leaving the site or the like. You always fear for the worst when that happens.

An interesting poster. It sometimes felt like he shot at whatever moved in these threads, but I always tried to read his posts.

After I read about his passing in this thread, I too went looking on the internet for an obit. I didn't find one, but stumbled across this article from Chicago.

Check out the comments (start at the bottom). Gotta be the same guy. It's almost like finding a bootleg tape of your favorite band that you hadn't heard before. One last series of blasts from OP.

Rest in peace.

Did you notice there was a post from someone using OP? :) Jerry is definitely the late, great OP.

I wonder if Jim Coughlin is really Kep or Rover??
I keed, I keed!

Great find, Hovey.

"I have no comments on your character assassination except to say I consider it an abject intellectual surrender."

That's our Pio.

Man, the guy had a way with words.

I loved the line in the tribute that said he got more articulate the more riled up he was.

Old Pio at his best :D:)

Re: The Dead thread - God sorts 'em out!

Old Pio at his best :D:)

I remember one instance OP thought I was disagreeing with him on a subject (must be a natural reaction). He replied, "You making fun of me Paaadna?" Wish I remembered the detail, but think it was on a Dead Thread a long time ago.

Thanks for the link Hovey. That is better than a eulogy.

Re: The Dead thread - God sorts 'em out!

I wonder if Pio must suffer libta*ds wherever he is. If so, he's still going at it. :)

You know you've made it on USCHO when you are responsible for getting a word added to the swear filter. ;)

Re: The Dead thread - God sorts 'em out!

Just opened this to read the sad news.

There are several members of this forum that I'd love to sit down and have several drinks with to discuss Life. the Universe and Everything. OP was one of the few for whom I would gladly cover the bar tab for said discussion.

Ditto. On all accounts.

Re: The Dead thread - God sorts 'em out!

Just saw this news myself. Sad to see one of the more interesting posters around here pass on. We often agreed, though not always. Didn't know he was here in Phoenix. Would have been fun to connect if I'd known.

Re: The Dead thread - God sorts 'em out!

RIP, OldPio.

I still always do a double take on other message boards when somone types "OP" (original poster) - I always think, "He's on this board, too???"

Hope he takes it easy on the Old Man and corrects him gently when needed.
