The Dead thread - God sorts 'em out!

Kirk Kerkorian, 98.

He only tried to buy Chrysler about 7 times or so.

How a guy who made his billions off Vegas mega-resorts ever wanted to get his mits on the Detroit auto industry baffles me. It's like someone who knows how to run a clothing store in New York deciding to open a restaurant in Kansas City.

Blaze Starr:

At 15, she was already voluptuously endowed, and it wasn’t long before she was asked whether she wanted to get into show business. She could sing a little and play guitar, and she envisioned a career in country music.

She went onstage in a cowgirl outfit. She came offstage with her hat, and a career was launched.

And that, my friends, is how you write an obituary.

I had never once heard of that woman until reading joecct's post. She must have been somewhat popular with (now) old men.

Long was released after several days, then returned to New Orleans, where he “received redheaded Blaze Starr, his favorite Bourbon Street stripper, at 2:30 a.m.,” according to Time magazine.

And she received him at 2:35.

This reminds me of my favorite come back (so to speak) of all time:

The Prince of Wales once complained to Lillie Langtry, "I've spent enough on you to build a battleship", whereupon she replied, "And you've spent enough in me to float one"

She was one of the queens of burlesque, but she became a household name by all but publicly banging Earl Long (brother of Huey). She became a by-word for big t*ts and stripping. Think of her as Jane Russell with less looks but more business savvy.

Here's Blaze doing that thing she did. (SFW) If you were repressed enough, I suspect it did more than curl your toes.

Oh my god, that's a good one.

When I was a teen (I think) I remember a movie about her

Re: The Dead thread - God sorts 'em out!

I heard about her years ago, due to the whole political thing. Then the movie came out (never saw it, no interest).

She was with me. Got to see her once in Baltimore years ago. Whatever it is you need to be considered 'hot', she had it.
The clips posted on the web for the most part cannot capture her live performance (much the same with the other big names in StripTease)

Ah....the underage teen memories of trying to get in to the Victory Burlesque Theater to see the ladies who were true artists! :D Just not the same with today's ti++y bars (oops..I mean "gentlemen's clubs")

Never been to either (a true gap in my education), but my guess is they were much better at "teasing," as the name suggests. Not to mention that the boobs-on-a-stick insectoid bulimics of today's porn shoots have less sex appeal than the extruded plastic their parts are molded from.

Burlesque is coming back, this time as a self-empowerment movement. Sadly it's dominated by performers who are about the last people anybody'd ever want to see strip (imagine theater geeks in their late 40s with various costume fetishes).
