The Dead Thread 2024

There are an ever-decreasing number of bright lights in the world and she was one. Dolly helped promote literacy through her book program. She helped students go to college. She literally helped create the vaccine for Covid through a major donation to fund the research. She sure as hell did more than the child rapist war criminal.

My favorite Dolly story was that she was driving when she first heard Whitney Houston's cover of "I Will Always Love You" for The Bodyguard. She got so emotional that she had to pull off the road. She later sent a note to Houston telling her "It's your song now." She invested the $10 million in royalties from that rendition of her song into Black neighborhoods in Nashville.

A funny story about Dolly is that to avoid paparazzi and overzealous fans, she would wear a disguise when she and her husband would go out to eat.

The world became a little darker today. :(

Dolly Parton could’ve written the Communist Manifesto, but Karl Marx could not have written 9 To 5.
Of note to this: She didn’t just write 9 To 5, she was a dues paying member of the American Federation of Musicians Local 257 in Nashville.
