God bless Ed.
Ed Kranepool (#7 in your program) died yesterday. He was 79.
I just watched the episode of House he guest starred in last night
The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball.
It really was. And played perfectly. That was a great role.
His cadence throughout the monologue is perfect.
“It will be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters.”
“America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It’s been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But baseball has marked the time.”
”Oooh, people will come, Ray. People will most definitely come.”
Oh god, I kept thinking I was forgetting lines from the sandlot. I had completely forgotten about field of dreams.
I should eventually watch that.
Definitely do that. And then read the book. Basic story is the same as the film but there’s an entire plot with the Cubs that plays a pretty major role in the book and then I don’t think a Cubs player even get shown in the film.
I first heard of him years ago when he was in a Subaru commercial. Subaru used people with names of cars of Subaru competitors. “Mercury drives Subaru…” I can still hear that jingle. Susan Ford (daughter of former president Gerald Ford) was also in it. Does anyone else remember that ad?
An important part of my childhood, with Warfield, Csonka, Griese, Morrall, and Yepremium.
