The Cricket Thread

Kepler

Cornell Big Red
I expect the heat death of the Universe before this thread closes.

To start off: this is a lot, right? Is this a college football team scoring 100 (maybe once a decade) or a theoretical NFL team scoring 100 (team TBD, but the opponent will be the Jets).

Re: The Cricket Thread

There are at least 2 fans of cricket on this board - me and a Plattsburgh State fan.

FIOS has a dedicated cricket channel (Willow) that is Indian centric, but covers the Aussies and other nations, too. When it showed up, I tuned in as being curious, but soon got hooked.

The shortest format (T20 or 20 overs per side) is way more exciting than baseball or football and I will watch T20 over either.

One World Sports carries the English domestic season. FIOS has that channel, too!

Unfortunately, most cricket is on the other side of the world and the matches start at ungodly times. I missed Nair's triple century (or ton)while sleeping.

It's fun to watch, it took me 3 matches and an open Wiki web page to figure things out.

Re: The Cricket Thread

T20 is fascinating, ODI is mildly interesting, Test Cricket seems unFSMly boring.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I've watched a fair number of tests. I'm not a fan as much as I'm just intrigued.

300 is an asston

The end of the Pakistan / Australia test was fascinating. I thought Pakistan had a good chance to pull out a W on the final day needing 140 runs with only 2 wickets to work with. They got it down to 40 before running out of wickets.

There are a few pirate services that allow you to watch cricket without paying thru the nose for it. I'd urge you to watch rhe Boxing Day Test (12/25 start here) from the Melbourne Cricket Grounds for the festivities. And then the Pink Test from Sydney to benefit breast cancer research/treatment.

The Aussies are a strange bunch that look like they like to enjoy themselves.

Re: The Cricket Thread

India chasing 350 against England needs 39 runs from 43 balls.

I love the Death Overs!

Edit: India wins with 356 runs with 11 balls and 3 wickets left.

A possible 1 billion people may be tuned in to watch today's Champions Trophy title match between Pakistan and India (ODI - 50 overs a side).

5:30am ET tipoff. I'll catch the chase somewhere around 9 am.

Wasn't much of a chase. Pakistan blew away India for 158 runs in 30.3 overs and won by 180 runs.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I was in Pune for a week in early May so I found myself watching alot of IPL on the TV. Pune had their best season ever but lost by a run in the finals. Why is the season so short? Are they trying to get it in before the hot/rainy months?

I will have to ask my boss about that. He was mentioning that Pakistan has taken a major down turn in the last few years- to the point that India's playing rival (not actual rival- who will always be Pakistan)- is more Austraila given how good they are (and England sucks).

And now Pakistan brings back the on field rivalry. Nice.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I never realized there was a cricket thread! It's my second favorite joy and has brought a tremendous amount of joy to my life. It's a shame so many in this country miss out on it. I only watched about 10 overs today at the start of India's innings before I had to go see my Dad for Fathers Day. When Kohli was dropped at first slip I thought that would be the key moment, but Amir delivered a corker next ball and Kohli was caught at backward point. The match was pretty much over after that. I'm not sure how much people on here watch but Kohli is basically the best ever when it comes to chases.

I still think Amir should have gotten a lifetime ban but am very happy for Pakistan and its fans. They've obviously had a lot of things go wrong both on and off the pitch in recent times and its great to see them have such incredible joy. Hopefully things calm down there and they are able to have home matches again. Sri Lanka was attached in Lahore close to 10 years ago and no teams have toured there since.

Keep trying to justify a trip to Ft. Lauderdale in early August to see Caribbean Premier League matches. Trouble is they're day (11 am and 5 pm) matches and I don't want to deal with the FLA heat and humidity.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Mason Crane making his debut for England today. He impressed for NSW last winter and has a very bright future ahead of him.

England blows South Africa out of the water by 9 wickets.

A record for fewest wickets in a T20I. I'm not really sure what was going on with AB today.

Happy to see Bairstow with another good knock. Across all forms of the game very few batsmen have as good of record since the start of 2015 as him.

AB was not AB in the IPL, either. I'm thinking the injury he had over winter has upset his game.

My Royal Challengers had all three stars banged up in the last IPL and it led to last place.
