The Countries: Forget it, Burkina Faso, Michigan is still the worst.

There is some smoke with this, but every account seems to be very dubious. Given that its been floating out there for 1/2 a day now, I'm guessing the answer is no.

WHOA!

I researched this 8 months ago and were it not for my great grandmother being naturalized (barely) before my grandmother's 18th birthday I would have had a valid claim chaining all the way back to the 1880s. It was a wildly liberal qualification where something like 75M people worldwide could theoretically have claimed. There are only 60M Italians!

Apparently this rumor has been floated several times.

Though this time around I am seeing that his brother died in a missile attack. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Got to shake hands with the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada today. She was handing out the medals for my sport at the Arctic Winter Games in Whitehorse and was thanking us officials afterwards.

Lots of dignitaries from around the Arctic here, including all the Premiers from the Canadian territories, the ambassadors from Greenland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland plus Canada’s Governor General of course.

Alaska’s Governor showed up for the opening ceremony at least, so there was at least some representation. US Ambassador for Canada was here too but I don’t think either of them attended the political meetings.

You would become stateless. I have no idea if you have to sail the oceans like The Man without a Country.

Are you talking about Netanyahu? I don't know how many brothers he has, but he had a brother killed in the Raid on Entebbe. Seriously. There's actually a monument to him at the Paris Jewish museum. Ironically, he was also the only Israeli officer who was against the raid, thinking it would be a disaster.

It was the only Israeli military casualty of that raid (two civilians died during the raid, including one who survived the Holocaust, and an American citizen who was hospitalized earlier was killed by the Ugandans after the raid).

I read that he had supposedly committed to improving his French when he took the job, with the expectation that he'd be able to handle these situations. Seems he didn't follow through.

Yeah, apparently he’s been hounded for years by the press in Quebec. With AC not having a great reputation, this sounds like it was the final straw. Though it’s very Canadian that the thing that finished him was not the poor perception of service with the public or his poor labo(u)r relations, it was his lack of French.

(Though, to be fair, Canada’s air market is such a mess it’s a miracle that any airline succeeds)

I'm sure it didn't help that Air Canada barely tries anymore. As if Canadians have a choice, what are the alternatives - WestJet, Porter, and the Trans-Canada Highway?

Pretty much. Like I said, Canada’s air market is a mess. Though how much of that is the fault of the airlines and how much is the fault of the government is debatable.

Case in point.

WestJet told passengers the cancellation was due to "unplanned aircraft maintenance" required for safety.

That did not match what he had just been told on the plane. And it meant WestJet didn’t have to pay compensation.

Under Canada's Air Passenger Protection Regulations (APPR), airlines only have to compensate passengers if a flight is cancelled, delayed or disrupted for reasons within carriers' control. However, if there is a maintenance issue that could impact safety, they don’t have to pay.
Just eight minutes before Neufeld's flight was cancelled, WestJet had reassigned the aircraft, which instead flew from Edmonton to Kelowna, B.C., and back that day. For Neufeld's trip, the airline brought in a different plane — one with mechanical issues.

This would be ironic but irony is already on a slab down at the morgue.
