The Countries: Forget it, Burkina Faso, Michigan is still the worst.

sounds like by a foreign country

Really? Haiti was already having a slow burning civil war, why wouldn't it just have been another faction? The dude who got shot was overstaying his term and canceled elections to remove the petty problem of popular will. Basically, Dump but attractive and able to think and speak in complete sentences.

We have a fun history with these folks which my teachers in HS somehow neglected to mention.

The United States occupation of Haiti began on July 28, 1915, when 330 United States Marines landed at Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on the authority of President of the United States Woodrow Wilson in order to establish control of Haiti's political and financial interests. The invasion and subsequent occupation was promoted by growing American business interests in Haiti. The July intervention took place following years of socioeconomic instability within Haiti that culminated with the murder of President of Haiti Vilbrun Guillaume Sam by insurgents angered by his ordered executions of elite opposition. The occupation ended on August 1, 1934, after President Franklin D. Roosevelt reaffirmed an August 1933 disengagement agreement. The last contingent of US Marines departed on August 15, 1934, after a formal transfer of authority to the American-created Gendarmerie of Haiti.

During the occupation, Haiti had three new presidents, though the United States ruled as a military regime led by Marines and the US created Haitian gendarmerie through martial law. Two major rebellions occurred during this period resulting in several thousand Haitians killed and numerous human rights violations – including torture and summary executions – by United States Marines and the gendarmerie. Corvee labor was utilized for massive infrastructure projects that resulted in hundreds to thousands of deaths.

There's a video of American (allegedly) voices on a megaphone saying "DEA operation" (allegedly) during the attack.

Obviously this should be treated with a grain of salt.

https://www.miamiherald.com/news/nat...252616688.html

The assailants claimed to be agents with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, according to videos taken by people in the area of the president¢??s home. Mo?¯se, 53, lives in Pelerin 5, a neighborhood just above the hills in the capital.

On the videos, someone with an American accent is heard yelling in English over a megaphone, ¢??DEA operation. Everybody stand down. DEA operation. Everybody back up, stand down.¢?

Sources told the Miami Herald that the assailants, one of whom spoke in English with an American accent, were not with the DEA.

¢??These were mercenaries,¢? a high-ranking Haitian government official said.

Biden Administration officials denied DEA involvement.

edit: found the video. As literally everyone suspected, it's clearly not the dea. Obviously they wouldn't be there announcing their presence for the world.

Sounds like a Shallow Fake.

IINM (it's hard to keep our imperialism straight) we were in favor the strongman dude who got offed, and so this would be an excellent excuse for us to swoop in yet again. We can call the pro-democracy * protestors insurgents or terrorists or communists or whatever, it doesn't matter.

* As far as I know the "pro-democracy" protestors would themselves abandon elections if they didn't go their way, because that's what happens when your country is being run as an extractive enterprise for a rich country's corporate class. Anybody who actually had scruples and principles has long since died in a prison.

I dont see any reason it would be us. We don't need to off him. I think the reason the rumors persist it is a foreign actor is that (at least when I read this morning)the family wasn't killed. Locals would have slaughtered them all.

No better place to put this.

Jesus Christ. The Death Cult truly is a kind of miracle of sociopathy. Take a bow, Augustine of Hippo. You really made a difference in the lives of the billions who have suffered because you had mommy issues.

Christians had better hope Jesus doesn't come back. He is going to be so p-ssed at them.
