When we started this the same question came up because Michigan State had the WCHA Belt when they left in 1981. It was decided to award a new Belt to the winner of the next WCHA which happened to be the NCAA championship game between Wisconsin and Minnesota. MSU eventually lost to a WCHA team. I think that the same thing should be done here. The first new WCHA won't be until next season, and there will probably be several the same day. In the past, we regarded all the winners do get Belts that were eventually united, since we ahd no idea which game finished first. This time we will probably know, but I think that we should go for consistency.
One could regard the existing WCHA as retired, but WCHA will probably eventually play someone still in the WCHA, and it is just one more Belt to track.

. (I haven't checked if their schedule is up yet.)
Opinions are always welcome.
