When we started this the same question came up because Michigan State had the WCHA Belt when they left in 1981. It was decided to award a new Belt to the winner of the next WCHA which happened to be the NCAA championship game between Wisconsin and Minnesota. MSU eventually lost to a WCHA team. I think that the same thing should be done here. The first new WCHA won't be until next season, and there will probably be several the same day. In the past, we regarded all the winners do get Belts that were eventually united, since we ahd no idea which game finished first. This time we will probably know, but I think that we should go for consistency.

One could regard the existing WCHA as retired, but WCHA will probably eventually play someone still in the WCHA, and it is just one more Belt to track. :D . (I haven't checked if their schedule is up yet.)

Consistency is good. So will the "NEW WCHA" Belt(s) be an Alternate WCHA Belt, until unified. Will former WCHA schools still be able to compete for Wisconsin's WCHA Belt, or is it only available to the current WCHA teams?

All of the full NCHC schedules, with exception to Denver (they have 2 games remaining), have been determined, so you should be able to notate who will be competing for the NCHC Belt(s) as well as the Minnesota and D-III belts.

Only current WCHA teams can get it. That was what we did last time.

No. IMO, it would matter, but we had no way of knowing the exact times of games when reconstructing all of the Belts several years ago. So we just used all applicable games that were on the same day. Considering that there are only eight teams in the NCHC, they should unify fairly quickly.

Canisius has many conference games missing according to your spreadsheet. It may be possible to figure out the "when" and "whom" for their first conference game (the "where" not being important), but I will wait until something is more concrete.

Fair enough. I'll do an analysis and let you know. I do agree that it will be difficult as that is usually when the "third game" is played, so it could be very random, especially given Canisius has to share its rink.

After some analysis, Canisius will most assuredly play at Air Force on October 25th, based upon Canisius AND Niagara playing Denver that weekend. Knowing this, there is I'd say a 60% chance of Canisius playing Niagara the week before on the 18th. The 11th or 12th seems unlikely. I was able to get all of Canisius's eastern opponents into the January/February timeframe (Bentley will likely be January 17th/18th, either Sacred Heart or AIC Jan 10/11th and Jan 31st/32nd), and late November seems out as November 29th/30th is the most likely time that Niagara will play Clarkson (Niagara is at Michigan on the 22nd).

Yes, I know January 32nd = February 1st. It keeps the text short.
