The CCHA: Where do we go from here?

Re: The CCHA: Where do we go from here?

Something I just thought of that I'd like to see the CCHA do, even now while the three BT schools are still around.

I know Notre Dame shows their home hockey games for free on their website. Western has a paid webcast of home games, as I believe Ferris State does, and maybe a couple other schools as well. I'd like to see the conference get together, and have all the schools that do webcasts pick a weekend and let one of their games be watched for free on the CCHA website during the season. It'd end up being like two games out of 18 in a season, so it's not likely to cost any school a massive amount of $ from lost subscriptions.

Odds are, there's no real TV contract after Michigan and MSU aren't on FSD anymore, and it'd be a (admittedly weak) replacement for no TV.

That's actually a really good idea, I watched as many games possible this year even if my team wasn't playing. Between FSD and CBSC there were only 2 games a week and always featured MSU or UM.

Re: The CCHA: Where do we go from here?

I know tech is a charter member of the WCHA, owns the league cup, uncompetive in the WCHA, doesnt have coach and had four wins last season.

I just wonder how long it going to take for the other teams from Colorado, North Dokata, Minnesota and Nebraska going to say they dont want to travel to Houghton to play a medicore team. Both Alaska teams are going to face this in the near future too.
Most of the WCHA fans I know would like to see MTU as a competative team in the WCHA again. I'm not aware of anyone calling for their ouster from the league. UAA had a good season this year, and made it to the F5. They play a tough brand of hockey and are not an easy out for anyone. I think you are about the only one who thinks they should be escorted out of the WCHA.
Is anyone else thinking the Anastos hire has officially signed the CCHA's death warrant?
Nope, Anastos is irrelevant, any commissioner can be replaced. If there is going to be any death warrant out of this, it would be signed by the loss of Michigan, Michigan State, and Ohio State. However, the league still has some quality schools in it and scholarships to offer to young men who want to play NCAA hockey at its highest level. If the CCHA makes some good choices with things such as a new commissioner hire, things should work out for them. If anything, getting a new commissioner who isn't a Big 10 mouth piece is probably to the CCHA's advantage right now.

That would probably get you thrown out of Ferris.

Yeah, I would think the CCHA would want to look at somebody that has ties to either one of the MAC schools or GLIAC's. Somebody who really has a good head on him and sharp as a tack.

Re: The CCHA: Where do we go from here?

I would ask everyone to have a sign at each game that you play against MSU next year stating:

"Tom Anastos is a Quitter and a Coward! Get out of our barn!"

Fantastic idea. You got it if they come visit the new Compton Family Center at Notre Dame.

Side note concerning ND losing 1.2 million in 09-10. Would them building the new stadium, although they got a massive donation of $10 million if I recall correct, account for some of this? Just a thought

Re: The CCHA: Where do we go from here?

That may be true, but they've already tried the D1 route and failed, just like Ill-Chicago and Kent State did.

The more I hear from locals, it was the Chicago Bulls success that killed the UIC Flames hockey program.

Sadly, today the Blackhawks aren't giving the same bump locally.

Re: The CCHA: Where do we go from here?

I suspect a lot of this was driven by their network. They need "content" and hockey fits the bill. they also need to control that content which they wouldn't necessarily do if the CCHA or WCHA were in the picture. This is a network that showed the Big 10 Womens Cross country Championships. And while I have nothing against cross country, I ran it in college and coached girls in high school, it doesn't make for scintilating television. In any case, I think the need for content the conference controls drives this decision.

I doubt it—ND requires that all construction be paid for with donations. They don't pay for it out of the endowment and they don't pay for it out of operating budgets.

The only possible way to sugar-coat that figure is if hockey were getting charged for a larger portion of the upkeep on the JACC than it actually contributed in terms of the cost of running the building.

The plus for the Compton Family Center is, more capacity means more revenue from games, and the significantly increased ability to serve the community means more revenue from rental (though the upkeep cost will likely go up as well due to the second sheet of ice if nothing else).

Yeah, but ND should be able to support both sheets with the same number of staff members and equipment. You do get a little bit of a break there on the economy of scale there.

I don't necessarily believe he'd do it, but Miami's Steve Cady would have to merit consideration. Frankly, I wouldn't want to lose him with all he's meant to our program. But, he's certainly qualified.

I believe that every CCHA team offers some sort of video feed for a fee except Notre Dame and Michigan. Notre Dame games are free as you mentioned. It does not really matter since they are leaving, but Michigan does not offer video, even for a fee.

I was able to watch every LSSU conference game on the internet this season except when they played at Michigan.

5 of the remaining CCHA teams use American One networks: LSSU, NMU, FSU, Alaska, and BGSU. Western and Miami both utilize a paid monthly or yearly subscription on their website.
