The CCHA: Where do we go from here?

Re: The CCHA: Where do we go from here?

I believe that every CCHA team offers some sort of video feed for a fee except Notre Dame and Michigan. Notre Dame games are free as you mentioned. It does not really matter since they are leaving, but Michigan does not offer video, even for a fee.

I was able to watch every LSSU conference game on the internet this season except when they played at Michigan.

Michigan offers it, at least for some games, via the Big Ten Network. At least one of the ND games at Yost this year was available online.

Re: The CCHA: Where do we go from here?

I didn't mind using B2, the feed got a little better towards the end of the year. I think there are still improvements to be made with it, but its better than no hockey.
Wouldn't mind if they made a league pass for the teams that use it.

Re: The CCHA: Where do we go from here?

Can we trade some of our refs to the BTHC for future considerations?

Re: The CCHA: Where do we go from here?

Jeff Jackson as commissioner would give the league immense credibility.

I really don't think that Notre Dame is gonna want to part with him the way he has turned around this program. While I don't doubt that he would do a very good job, I put the chances of it happening at below 1%

Re: The CCHA: Where do we go from here?

Personally I think the whole thing s*uks! The Big Ten is screwing up both the WCHA and the CCHA and for what, to field a 6 team conference? I love going to the finals at the Joe and it will never be the same after the split.

Re: The CCHA: Where do we go from here?

Thank you Hockeybuckeye. There is going to be a backlash against the Big Ten and the members of it during the course of the next two seasons. Making it worse is Tom Anastos going to MSU. What a freaking joke. Like all things in todays society, money rules! I hate that it has come to that in our small world of college hockey.

He has a great gig at Notre Dame; great school and support for hockey improving all the time.

His motivation to become CCHA Commissioner would be a firm platform to work to save the small programs, which he feels strongly about. If anyone can build the CCHA from here out, it would be him.

That said, I agree at low odds of it happening.

I think the Big 10 realizes that a 6 team conference is only the beginning stages. With success it isn't unreasonable for the Big 10 schools to think other members will follow suit if the money pot starts growing. And they aren't really screwing up the WCHA and CCHA. The WCHA will still be a premier league and the CCHA will be fine. The will will be different, but hardly "screwed." Change can be good, embrace it. This could be the shot in the arm that college hockey needs.

A growing money pot is not in the future for the Big Ten teams simply because of a new league affiliation. The only reason (and I mean the ONLY reason) Penn State is going D1 is because one of the richest people on the planet (I believe Forbes ranks him among the richest 100 Americans) dropped 80 million dollars in the athletic department's lap and said "start a D1 program." No way do a few more televised games generate a fraction of what would be needed for any of the other 6 Big 10 schools who don't sponsor the sport to change their minds. Unless some Iowa alum (or Purdue, IU, whoever) has the same love for hockey and tens of millions of dollars burning a hole in his pocket, the Big 10 Hockey conference is going to be a 6 team league for the foreseeable future. If I'm wrong, I'll start rooting for Michigan.

Re: The CCHA: Where do we go from here?

Unless there's money in for them somewhere I don't see Ohio State doing this for any other reason. Money is the only thing that motivates our athletic department, after all Gene Smith's million dollar plus a year salary has to come from somewhere and hockey here has been in the red for years. Another point made on a different thread is not only is there the obstacle of building suitable arenas for the hockeyless Big Ten schools but Title IX to deal with. If they start a new men's sport a new women's sport must be established as well which require even more funding. Ohio State doesn't charge admission for it's women's hockey games otherwise nobody would come if they had to pay or so it seems.
