Re: The Beanpot is...

No way you could make the finals confrence games. But you could make the first round that is between 2 hockey east schools a confrence game (this year it would have been BU / NU).

That would at least open up one schedule slot 2 out of every 3 years for BU, BC and NU.
The one brilliant idea from this thread. It should be done.

Re: The Beanpot is...

You don't know if you will play 1 or 2 or possibly 0 other HE teams in the beanpot in some cases.
Wait, how do you play 0 HE teams in the Beanpot? You actually HAVE to play at least 1 HE team. The years you play Harvard in the first round, you will only play 1.

I agree, though, that due to the tournament setup, you can't have the second round be a conference game.

...another chance to whine about the eastern bias of ESPN.

Harvard could acutally win a game one of these years. I did totally forget that they have a consolation game, so you are correct they would at minimum have 1 game against another HE team.

No doubt... unfortunatley I doubt it would ever happen.

BU, BC and NU are very limited right now in their OOC schedule... 27 hockey east games, then 2 OOC games already commited from here to perpetuity wtih the Beanpont... leaves what? 5 OOC games?

I'm would think, for the most part, all three schools would agree that they would rather schedule a CCHA or WCHA team instead of seeing each other a 4th time through the season.

This already occurred once... Anyone know the season, teams and reason why?

Last year BU and Harvard did not schedule the annual game on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving as the two teams were scheduled to play in the first round of the Beanpot. If BU continues with this scheduling and BC were to start it, it would give BU and BC another OCC game to schedule every season if the three Hockey East teams agreed to schedule the first round game as a league game . NU would get the “short end” of the arraignment regarding Harvard, but they currently don’t schedule them every season, which means they currently have more flexibility in their scheduling then BU or BC.

Remember when BU, BC, and H were all in the ECAC.... good times!
Some of those ECAC teams also won national championships that counted towards the ECAC, not the HEA?! Burp, well just BU's three from the seventies.

Which is pertinent how, exactly?

And no, I don't remember the time when all four Beanpot teams were in the ECAC. Probably because I was 4 when HEA was formed. But yeah, I was aware of this. Thanks anyway for the history lesson.

Re: The Beanpot is...

Did anyone else's "Sweet" bar on the graph come up red? I just thought it was a little funny, considering the colors of the schools involved... ;)

Honestly, based on UNH's performance in non-conference games last season, and the (again) overwhelming number of red teams we're facing in the coming OOC season, I'd RATHER be in the Beanpot! Not that the other HEA schools in it never give us trouble, but trade out a Comm Ave school so we can play Harvard? Okay!

But, being that I'm not in Beantown (and neither is Harvard, but whatever...) I watch it to see how other teams are playing in a game that doesn't matter to the rest of the world.

Word has it the Beanpot helps with recruiting, however. Or maybe that's just with BU/BC.

Re: The Beanpot is...

The Beanpot is great because of the tradition of it all. Same four schools, first two Mondays in February. I guess unless you go to one of the four schools, you don't get it.

You don't need to have gone to the schools, I loved going to the Beanpot every year when I lived in Boston. It's a fantastic tourney, though the Old Gahden also made it wonderfully historic and that's gone now.
