Re: The Beanpot is...

You still have two EZAC teams paired.
BU's non-ECAC NC record is only 1-1.
BC's record without the EZAC is also 1-1.

Huh? There's only one ECAC team in there.
But we have to keep 1 of those teams in there to play either BU or BC, keep the local draw.

The 2 play-in teams would be guests, different every year, and it would rotate whether BU or BC would play that team.

Re: The Beanpot is...

It is only relevant if you live in the vicinity of Comm. Ave. The rest of the country west of Newton Commonwealth does not even care.
Next time, invite a couple good schools to the party. Bring in North Dakota, Wisconsin, or a Michigan team to help give the gene pool some diversity.

so BC could have another gimme win before its inevitable loss to bu? no thanks. i suppose it throws a wrinkle for a few more teams to possibly beat bu in the earlier rounds though.

i like the idea of the hillbilly cup with UVM, ME, and UNH. But I would throw in Dart as the 4th. maybe the beanpot should start relegating the 4th place team to the hillybilly cup sub-tournament and then you have to win your way back.

the hillbilly cup could relegate to the GLI or something

Sooo you think its Stupid, yet you want your team in it. I see how it works. Its such a great tournament, that it sucks unless my team is in it.

Having a "non-conference" tourney with three HEA teams is the stupid part. I suggest that you try to open up the gene pool and have some new blood.
Not even Minnesota is arrogant enough to have a tournament with just their schools.

It's a tournament for Boston bragging rights. Remind me again -- what other city has 4 college hockey teams?

Re: The Beanpot is...

Make it a round-robin and make the games (other than Hahvahd) conference games. I've been to Bohstahn enough times to understand the importance to Bahstahn hockey fans (my brother lives on Chestnut Hill).
It just isn't the biggest thing is the rest of fly-over land (neither is the GLI).

You can't make them conference games. What do you do with the rest of Hockey East? All teams have to play a like number of conference games.

BU played 3 games each against Northeastern and BC. Use one of those games and hold it where ever the Bruins play or at Fenway (neutral site). There is a way to make the games conference, it just takes a little desire.

You don't know if you will play 1 or 2 or possibly 0 other HE teams in the beanpot in some cases. The schedule is set long before the season beings and their is little or no flexibility to insert a game or move a game during the season.

Example: Schedule has BC playing two against BU and NU, BC is to play NU in the first round of the beanpot, they lose. They have only two games played and scheduled versus BU. How do they correct that?

BU has two scheduled against BC and NU, they face Harvard in first round of Beanpot, they lose, how do you get them the third game against BC and NU?

Re: The Beanpot is...

We had that with ULowell instead of Amherst. Can't remember what happened to it.

Teams didn't like giving up precious non-conference games on a meaningless mid-season tournament. Let the Boston teams do that :p

No way you could make the finals confrence games. But you could make the first round that is between 2 hockey east schools a confrence game (this year it would have been BU / NU).

That would at least open up one schedule slot 2 out of every 3 years for BU, BC and NU.
