The Barr Has Been Raised at UMaine

I was in awe of the UNH crowd last night. Have they drawn like that all season? Does Maine really get them to turn out like that? I'm sure that Hockey East is secretly rooting for Maine and UNH to get back to Boston.....$$$

Other than BC I think this has been the case in the second half.

I would feel better about Maine if it was the new guys carrying them instead of Ostman, Breen, Poisson, etc. I’m def very happy with the effort but Barr is going to have to do a better job finding guys who can score moving forward. Having bottom six guys who can score five goals a year instead of one or two makes a huge difference.

If you listen to Barr he is and has clearly been frustrated with the lack of scoring from unnamed players and how certain players are mostly getting the points.
I won't be surprised to see a few of the new current players off the roster next year.
Bottom line with Barr is the minimum expectations are everyone on that roster will be giving it 100% at every practice and getting on the ice for additional skill building.
The next is, is this work improving their game to become a contributor.
Barr doesn't appear to be the type to hang onto someone who is not going to become the contributor as needed.

I have some friends who are "in the know" and have seen a lot of UNH hockey this year. They told me that the place was kind of a ghost town every game all season before this weekend. So yes, I would say Maine gets them to show out like that. It was a pretty electric crowd on Saturday, I'll give them credit for that.

First back to back sell out since 2013 and guess who was the guest? UMaine. Heard that last night on telecast

With Commish Nigel formerly being the assistant UNH AD, I'm not thinking it's very "secret" anymore.

Pretty much every program in HEA has now had their "up" times and their "down" times over almost 40 years of league history now, and the data couldn't be any clearer, based on attendance figures, HEA fares best financially when UMaine and UNH pair up with at least one (preferably two) of the Boston schools in the Hockey East tourney.

It looked like UNH made a conscientious effort to bust out attendance this weekend, and hopefully someone noticed that when you act like you've got a quality product to sell, there are people out there who will show up.

Even with all the changes, additions, good times and bad times.....Maine, UNH, BC and BU is still the "classic" HE Final 4.

I go to just about every home game and I would not call it a 'ghost town'. Especially since they've been doing better this season. Now, if these fans 'in the know' were regulars from the 'hey day' seasons when Mike Souza, Hadar, etc played and UNH won HE / were regulars in the NCAA's...then yeah, you could say that- the building was full every single game in those days. I mean there were wait lists for season tix so I'm told. Still, it was awesome to see the 'Whitt to capacity and that doesn't happen often but when the BBears are in town, it makes a difference. I was impressed with the amount of Maine fans and their enthusiasm all weekend. They would start their own cheers and at times definitely 'out cheered' the UNH faithful! Your goal tender was the difference and I know we got out of this weekend with 4 very hard earned points.

Good luck the rest of the way...and someone in this thread said HE is better when UNH and Maine are better; am thinking that is so true!

Didn’t Yeats have one as well?

According to the media guide the game on 1/5/01 was 0-0 and played at the Whit but when Morris got his shutout and I mentioned it I had several fans tell me that game was in Manchester. Scott Darling also posted a 1-0 shutout win in Manchester 2/7/09.

Verizon didn’t open until the fall of 2001 so the game was definitely at the whittemore center.

Gotta say really like the skills of Brezeale and Sirota back on the blue line. Mobile, shifty and physical those two are hard to handle. When was the last D with Brezeales skill ?

Brezeale was definitely one of the players that stood out in the series for Maine.

Brezeal and Sirota don't suck, that's for sure, and Breen could have been a Walsh recruit.

Aside from Ostman (at least for now) the rest of the team is more or less expendable.

Hoping that Barr can sell this program to a couple of snipers. Maine isn't that far away from relevance.

Maine needs some Offense from some different players thats for sure. I thought Trudeau was supposed to be someone who would give us some offense but haven't seen much from him. Speed of the game too much at this level? Against UNH it was the same ol' shoot from the point and hope for a rebound. Be nice to have someone who can dangle in traffic a wee bit. Pretty obvious we have to wait another year for that?

Is this a rhetorical question? They are better than what we have seen in the past few years. They don't compare that well against Will O'Neill and Jeff Dimmen on the 2009-20010 team. Will O'Neill 8,23,31 and Jeff Dimmen 12,18,30. Can't think of many since then.

O’Neill and Dimmen were certainly two good ones. To me, Hutton was probably the best of the defensemen of the last 10-15 years, especially offensively.

Other guys would be Keeper, Holway and Renouf off the top of my head.

Breazeale and Sirota might not put up the points like O’Neill, Dimmen and Hutton but their two way game is probably better. Those guys had their production also benefit from playing with a more talented forward crop (Nyquist, Abbott, Flynn, Shore)

I got to say that Antonacci, Holt, and Arnott are fantastic additions to the D side. Whats not to like, great sticks, speed, can take the puck from anyone.
Holt was scoring, but Arnott and Antonacci need to get the scoring going along with both Sirota and Brezeale.
