The Barr Has Been Raised at UMaine

It appeared to me Trudeau has started to get more confident in traffic, along the boards, in deep. I expect his efforts will soon result in goals…

Hope so, he's been flat for a while. I think Barrs comments tonite were directed towards Trud and a few others.

not sure what Barr said but the whole team looks flat tonight so far anyway

He basically challenged the players who havent scored in a while or at all to get at it.
They look a little too defensive oriented and not thinking how to move the puck.
Passing aint the sharpest.

Maine goalies who have gone to Durham and shut out the Wildcats:

Matt Morris (1/24/15)
Victor Ostman (2/18/23)

Ostman gets a fish dinner for his accomplishment.

What is that! Dont even know what to say for shootout skills with that.
Hate shootouts.

Their tanks are empty. Not as conditioned as I thought.

Tough weekend for the guys. It feels really unsatisfying but that is just due to the shootout. I guess we got “swept” lol. It does give me some confidence though about this team going on the road. The ability to keep a game in reach on the road definitely should not be overlooked, especially at this time of the year. Disappointing weekend for sure but I don’t think there is any cause for concern. Haven’t lost in regulation in their last 5 though which is a good sign.

They played hard not well.

Other than BC I think this has been the case in the second half.

I would feel better about Maine if it was the new guys carrying them instead of Ostman, Breen, Poisson, etc. I’m def very happy with the effort but Barr is going to have to do a better job finding guys who can score moving forward. Having bottom six guys who can score five goals a year instead of one or two makes a huge difference.

I don’t think so because after last night Maine is basically locked in somewhere between 7th and 9th. I can see Maine finishing 8th and playing Umass in the first round. It’s hard for me to decide which team out of UNH, BC, and Umass is the best matchup. You can make arguments for and against all of them.

None of those teams deserve an NCAA berth.

Screw the concept of participation awards.

Why even have a RS if everyone is eligible to begin with?

I thought they were all over UNH the last 25 minutes of the game but the UNH goaltender took up too much room and you have to get him moving to open up some net. All you have to see is the shootout to see Maine can't get any goaltender moving.

I don't ever remember Maine being particularly good in shoot outs, always had good goaltenders who weren't made for shootouts and for some reason shooters who weren't good at them either. maybe its selective memory???

This team is better than we thought they would be but still still not a contender. Like to see them finish strong in Regular season, win a home playoff game and then whatever happens I'm good with it. Barr needs to bring in some offense and I'm sure he is trying.

Good to see UNH sellout a few games anyway. Hockey East is better when Maine and UNH are good, Both teams travel well and will fill Boston if they ever get good enough to be contenders again.

What a pathetic shootout performance by Maine each night!! Hard to believe they won one against NU back in October! Stephenson demonstrated how to do it last night. Skill and patience.

Yeah the 2nd half of the third period Maine gave it all they had and put UNH on their heals. The thing I saw was Maine took alot of initial shots during the 3rd that hit sticks or easy stops for the goalie when they had chances if they looked to pass. Its like they had tunnel vision or wanted to just brute force the puck in the net. With the SO it looked to me like they were just worn out from giving it +100% during the 3rd, just couldn't make any puck moves to get the goalie moving, same with two of the three for UNH.

The team is surely better and heading in the right direction. They have good speed, good defensive sticks, play well on the forecheck and a boat load of work ethic. They have improved alot with clearing the defensive zone. For offense other than grinding on the boards and shooting from the points they are missing that ability to move the puck with clean passes to open players in the offensive and neutral zones. It will need to come in time with recruiting, if it doesn't middle of the pack is where we will be.

The next four games will be interesting. It could as easily go 0-4 as 2-2. Dont see 4-0 as being realistic at all. BC and UMA are good teams regardless of their lackluster performance so far this year.
