The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

This thread is godawful boring. What the heck is going on here?

Superbowl Week!

- Big Ben... Angry Jack. Good nicknames. Both have taken a beating in the press lately.
- Super Bowl XLV... BU's Super Bowl where their fans wear XXXXL jerseys.
- The Terrible Towel... The terrible fanboys.
- No more Bus (retired)... a coach (should be retired) almost has no more players to throw under the bus.
-NFL players that have studied for the wonderlic test... Andrew Glass who is studying for his future NHL wonderlic test:

sample question:
Circle the Highest Number these things represent
A) Chris Bourque's Grade Point Average
B) Jack's current BAC level
C) Jerry's titles - Jack's titles
D) The number of UNH national titles.

Tough one! But Andy Glass knows the answer.

That being said. BC is 3-0 against BU this year and #1 in the country. I'm putting BC's chances at winning this game at about 20%. Angry Jack is kicking guys off the team left and right, cleaning out lockers without warning, and despite a nice 3-game stretch vs. UNH and Maine, he's going to be threatening more kids with expulsion this week in practice if they don't beat BC (or if they try to study for a test, which has been made perfectly clear, is unacceptable ).

For those attending, I hope you all have fun and enjoy yourselves responsibly. It'd be a shame to see another BU student get high and drunk and run onto the Garden ice to beat up Baldwin.

After this we can all celebrate the annual Grounddog Day, traditionally the 2nd Tuesday in February which marks the unofficial end of BU's season (Harvard and NU cannot have a day like this since their season is over the moment it starts). Will the ratdog see his shadow? Everyone is dying to find out. I have a hunch it's going to be an extra few weeks of offseason for BU this year! :D

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

Harvard? Honest question, how would you rank Brown's top three rivals?

Probably like this:

1. Harvard
2. Yale
3. Cornell

(You could make an argument for Providence, but since they moved the game to a weekday every year, interest has dwindled.)

And none of those teams reciprocate the feeling, I know. Such is the pain of being largely irrelevant for so long.

But the Harvard game used to be a big deal, before they went to the midweek schedule. Every year, we would have two games with decent crowds- Cornell (because they bring so many traveling fans) and Harvard.

Brown's general dislike of Harvard was on display at the football game this year, when 4,700+ Brown students (17,000+ overall) came out and verbally berated Harvard for 3 hours. Unfortunately, most Brown students don't care enough about sports to do that more than once a lifetime ;)

*sigh* Just goes to show you how ill informed all of you UMass-Roxbury students are. It's UMass-Kenmore. Nice to see your NU edjamication leaves out reading comprehension and retention otherwise you would already know that. D'uh. Seriously. I'm workin' with amateurs here!

5-year program clap clap clapclapclap!!! :)

First off, if I were still a student, that would mean that I am in my 11th year as a student. The only distinction I would have over other UMass Roxbury students would be that I would have enough credits to offically have attained a bachelor's degree.

Just because your campus... I mean strip mall.... starts at Kenmore, doesn't mean it is UMass Kenmore. Your school owns Comm Ave and therefore your school is offically UMass Comm Ave. And you wonder why Boston residents try and run you down on Comm Ave? You try and lay claim to Kenmore Square which clearly you can't. That is Red Sox territory. The more you try and claim that, the more the citizens of Boston will try and run you down, any means necessary. We know how they feel, I mean we're the suppliers to half the city and we do talk to our customers.

But hey, at least we had football longer than you.

Comm. Ave is a very nice and scenic road. It only gets ugly once it hits the Baghdad U. campus.

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

Outright canceled. No postponement. Needless to say, I'm extremely disappointed. That food is so good.

What do you typically get? I'm surprised they just don't give you the awful Garden food of Fingers and Fries

BTW, when you get a chance, can you ask Joe P if he'd rather have the three HE wins or one Beanpot win over BC? ;)

Oh no, they go all out. I've had maybe 20 or so Garden media dinners now and only a couple have been disappointing. Just off the top of my head, I've had steak, prime rib, grilled chicken, breaded chicken, turkey, ham, tacos, fajitas, various pasta dishes, sausage w/ peppers and onions. And then there's the dessert tray...

The food is no less than 99% of the reason I go to HE and Beanpot media day, and no less than 50% of the reason I want to be a B's beat writer.

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

My God, some of you really get touchy when it comes to the **** Pot

We should all bow to BU for their dominance in this tournament.

Please do, let us enjoy it for the moment... after all our season ends on Tuesday...:D

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

Wait, the national championship is next week? Totally crept up on me...

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

...and then leave NU with a legit shot to win the cup?

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! You're funny.

And yes, the Beanpot media spread is one of the more amazing things in life. Also enjoyed the popcorn machine in the press room, just in case you wish to nibble, but don't want to go back downstairs.

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

Wait I think I'm missing something here, they shake up the scheduling this year?! It appears the consolation and championship games are being played first! Well, whatever saves time/money on stadium beers.

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

You're right... 12 out of the last 16 years and 4 out of the last 6 isn't exactly domination.

If BC wins again, they'll have three of the last four right? The Patriots have won 3 of the last 9 Super Bowls, right? I guess they are dominating that event, too...

We did BU Bingo a few years ago and handed out score sheets, so why not?
