The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

looked to me that only the first goal really changed course. the other 2 looked as though the path was not affected, at least to these aging eyeballs

Ya, these tipped goals are definitely being exaggerated. The first one was unfortunate for Millan, but goals three and four didn't take much of a deflection at all.

i thought the fanboys were bad, but even they dont compare their student section to forces of nature:rolleyes:

Talk about grasping at straws.

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

What are the possibilities of NU upsetting BC like 1980?

Wayne Turner scored the winning goal in that one.

BC is heavily favored as they should be but strange things can happen sometimes.

Very possible. The Eagles will probably lose on a hattie by a former commit. ;)

But I doubt it.

BC only beat them 2-0 in an earlier matchup, I think the 2nd goal was an ENG. The Garden will be rocking with the NU Dog Pound and with the BC students cheering and yelling "Safety School."

Go to hell. I hate you. It's Dog HOUSE. And yes it was an ENG.

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

Since everyone feels like complaining about the refs, can someone explain to me why Muse didn't get a penalty for that two-hander to Escobedo's grill and why Atkinson didn't get a penalty for barrel rolling Millan? And before everyone jumps on me, no, I don't think BU lost because of the refs. BC got screwed just as much, if not more, but I just hadn't seen those two plays discussed yet.

Muse could/should have received a penalty for that, but I disagree with you on Atkinson. And, come on, BC clearly got screwed more when you consider they lost a good goal.

Muse certainly guards that crease doesn't he? :D;)

Re: Muse... He was going to be steamrolled if he doesn't protect himself. Escobedo was not slowing down. Self defense.

Re: Atkinson... Millan had it coming. :p

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

Congrats to BC on the win.

Even though BU lost, I was satisfied with the play/intensity of the BU team last night. Each game against BC this year has been closer and closer. I have to remind myself that this BU team is a very young team going against a veteran laden, playoff tested, #1 BC team. BC has all the tools for another NC run.

Hopefully BU demolishes Harvard next week. Even though it is the consolation, only the third I think since I have been following BU, I think BU's bubble status in the PWR should serve as enough motivation.

BU has a pretty easy schedule down the stretch. Take care of business, have a good HE tourney, and grab a game or two of NCAA experience which will serve the team well next season. That is what I would like/expect to see going forward.

Re: Muse... He was going to be steamrolled if he doesn't protect himself. Escobedo was not slowing down. Self defense.

Yes he was. Escobedo had his skates turned horizontally and was stopping. I'm positive of this because I thought Muse decked him to prevent from getting snowed. But he was absolutely stopping and Muse went at his head/shoulders unprovoked. Not a very relevant play though in the grand scheme of the game.

edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xuY5ARZAhjk start from 4:05, plainly obvious Escobedo was not running Muse. If anything, the third trailing BC guy pushed him.

This. I also think Escobedo's momentum was actually carrying him more toward the post than Muse. Looked like at worst, he would've collided into Muse's right leg, not his chest or head.

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

It would help at least a bit if the refs had to offer an explanation to the crowd when they call a goal or no goal after a review... Many a time have I been baffled by calls at college games and it seems as if there would be a bit less confusion if the ref came out and reported on what they saw. Last night... did they really think the puck didn't go in the goal, or was there another reason it wasn't counted? (Haven't seen it so I really have no idea)

For a guy coming off of hip surgery I don't think he wants guys colliding with his leg pads either.

It's one of those things you live with. You want to go to the front of the net and camp out be prepared to take a beating. If you want to charge hard at the goalie, you're going to get whacked. I'm fine with letting that go. Be happy you didn't get a penalty. A few years ago in the Piszpot, Gerbe came through WITH THE PUCK and the BU goalie (Bennett?) lunged at him and they called Gerbe for a penalty (naturally).

Over/Under Time

So far I've got:

-$200 dollars that jackie gives to hansen and the boys before the game to see things with a tinge of scarlet (gotta be at least 200 for a disallowed goal)
-5 harvard fans (not including band) (saw at least 10 people cheering during one powerplay)
-1 sucks to bu chant/per night There were four from the superfrauds last night... one within the first two minutes of play... so that over already!
-.5 best band ever chants from the fanboys Does it have to be loud to count? if so still 0
-2 sections filled by each school not named harvard Does NU's contingent count as over? It was maybe 2 and a quarter
-1 kickout for one classy fan from each school No idea
-5 overall safety school chants Think we were at four last night (three BC to BU, one NU to Harvard)
-15 superfans who know the rules of hockey Benefit of the doubt
-3 chants making fun of roxbury Zero... so far?

Awesome for the NU safety school chant at Harvard. Dissapointed that no bu students came early to start the Roxbury chants. And I don't see bc doing it either.

The official explanation we got in the press box was that the replay was inconclusive. True, you couldn't definitively see white ice between the puck and the goal line, but common sense tells you it was over. I guess common sense doesn't qualify as conclusive evidence, though.

I didn't see any for Harvard or NU, but I'm pretty sure this was an over for the BU-BC game. Perhaps the funniest thing I saw last night (and if anyone was in or around the BC student section, they can probably add more): BU fan goes into BC section to start trouble, gets into a scuffle with BC fan, security takes away BU fan, BC fan celebrates and tries to pump up BC section, security comes back and gets him too. It was just hilarious because the BC fan clearly thought he was getting off scot-free. All I could think of was Lee Corso going "Not so fast, my friend!"

ETA: Also, some girl got kicked out (couldn't tell who she was a fan of) and the BC fans started chanting "She's not that drunk!"

In the Beanpot, BC could find a way to get called for goalie interference when shooting on an empty net. Officiating in the Beanpot is like WWE
