The 4th Global War on Terror - Deja vu all over again!

Re: The 4th Global War on Terror - Deja vu all over again!

Let's get in the Wayback machine and fix this. Perhaps we won't elect the "peace" candidate, who wound up sending 600K Americans to Vietnam. Maybe we'll elect instead the candidate who said we should either fight that war to win it or get the fark out. Maybe then you'll stop whining. Think of it, you'll be able to amend your list of "life experiences" that give you "understanding" the rest of us lack.

I'm just glad the Republicans are actually not demanding war. Hopefully they won't go belly up like usual.

Not like the Democrats, eh? Next stop, Hanoi. How are those batteries holding out? Maybe you should ask mom for some fresh ones.

Would love to trade shots with you all night, but I must be getting to bed. Maybe someday you'll realize what I meant about "life experiences" and stop b!tc#ing so much. Until then, have a cookie and some warm milk. It might make you less irritable.

Maybe when you wake up you won't be so stubbornly obtuse. You've had ample opportunity to differentiate between your "life experiences" informing your opinions (just as mine do) and those "life experiences" conferring "understanding," which logically others (with different "life experiences") don't have. Perhaps it's a matter of usage. But it sure came across as pompous to me.

Is anyone insinuating that the Russkies will fire on US Navy warships??

Nah, that sounds like a nice safe stable situation to me. Lots of warships and subs in relatively close proximity, one side openly supports the current government and the other side getting ready to cruise missile said government. And throw in that the US and Russia aren't exactly seeing eye-to-eye right now. What could go wrong?

"It would be well for your government to consider that having your ships and ours, your aircraft and ours, in such proximity... is inherently DANGEROUS. Wars have begun that way, Mr. Ambassador."

Syria has all kinds of Russian electronics, which I assume needs Russian military advisers to run, launch a few cruise missiles and take out a jeep full of advisers, hey Vlad, sorry about the collateral damages. The law of unintended consquences

What if the stuff is good enough to shoot down cruise missiles and the Syrians have a N. Vietnam like SAM belt to shoot down bombers??

V.V. gains tons of brownie points and El Presidente becomes an international non entity.

Re: The 4th Global War on Terror - Deja vu all over again!

Russia won't do anything. That's counter to their whole bluster play.

Edit: Seems to me there has been inferred comparisons to JFK. I'm sure the missile crisis is a comparison he won't relish.

For once, we agree. The Russians are all hat and no cattle. I'm reminded of a Tom Clancy column from a few years back. There was a lot of heavy breathing about the new Soviet Kirov class cruisers, and how deadly they were. Clancy quoted an LA attack boat skipper (think Bart Mancuso) who said: "When I see a Kirov class cruiser, I see a Navy Cross waiting to happen."

Don't bait the Bear. Germany thought they had a pushover in 1941. 30 million dead on both sides proved that estimate wrong.

I am not willing to find out who's got a bigger set.

Re: The 4th Global War on Terror - Deja vu all over again!

El Presidente has decided to ask Congress for authority to launch against Syria. He poo poos the UN -- good for him!

Trot out the rhetoric from Iraq I and Iraq II.

Which way will the vote go?

Re: The 4th Global War on Terror - Deja vu all over again!

The president is going to wait for Congress to get back in session, so that'll take a few weeks.

No one will be shooting down any cruise missiles. Anti-aircraft capabilties that could pose a legitimate threat? Possible, depending on what they have.

Re: The 4th Global War on Terror - Deja vu all over again!

The more I have thought about this, the more I think this is just a welcome back gift to Jon Stewart.

There's a reference that's in serious contention for the least apropos of the week. You've posted several other contenders. Remember during the Vietnam proxy war we were constantly warned about not irritating the Russians? And when Nixon mined Hanoi and Haifong (trapping Russian freighters in those harbors) the Russians. . .did. . .nothing. And they won't do anything substantive here, even if Barack Erwin Rommel Obama mans up and kicks that arab punk in the gonads.
