The 4th Global War on Terror - Deja vu all over again!

Re: The 4th Global War on Terror - Deja vu all over again!

Answer the question Scooby, I already know everything is Bushs fault

Well, it's too late to save him. He took the risk, there's always a risk of death being an ambassador to a country like that. So, is it ok? Not the term I would use but I think it's something that could happen and on the tragic scale I find it lacking.

Re: The 4th Global War on Terror - Deja vu all over again!

I see. So, now it's Obama's fault that he died. Well, I seem to remember a certain memo that GW Bush received before 9/11 so I'm sure you're pinning that 3000 or so deaths on him, correct?

Does that mean that, if a fireman is unable to save someone from a burning building, it's the chief's fault? The financier? Perhaps the civil service examination proctor?

When you have the facts, pound the facts, when have the law, pound the law, when you have nothing, pound the table

And indeed the GOP did put on an impressive show of table-pounding in the hearing. :)

I didn't propose the premise. Ask Walrus.

You're going to bomb a city from over there to protect (4) Americans??

Yeah, right.

The weirdest disconnect in the whole thing is the complete disregard for the fact that, in general, the Libyan people like us. But what we really should have done is go in guns blazing, collateral damage galore, turned the country against us, in a vain attempt to save the ambassador. Got it.

Re: The 4th Global War on Terror - Deja vu all over again!

That's just the kind of argument that drives me nuts as a conservative. Every time -- and I bet you've noticed this too -- every time some nanny-stater wants to raise the minimum car seat age to 12, every time someone wants a law increasing the drug-free zone outside of schools from 200 yards to 400 yards, every time someone tries to make a law's penalty longer because of perceived hatred in the mind of the attacker -- when wiser heads say, "Look, we already have laws in place for some of this stuff, and, frankly, as adults, we have to admit that sometimes you can't do anything to prevent tragedy, and sometimes nobody is to blame," they wheel out the photo of the child freakishly killed in some extraordinarily rare way and say, "I have real qualms when you say this child's life is statistically insignificant."

It a bull****, emotional argument, and it tramples any chance of seeing the situation honestly, and on top of everything it only gives people the fake sense that they're doing something.

I'll keep it safe relative to whom you responded to, but spot on.

Why do you hate Merica?

If it was you or a member of your family in there, would your view be a bit different?

Countries also respect strength. Remember our history with the Barbary Pirates. The rule is "You mess with America at your own peril." Guess the rules have changed.

You take 2 F16s fly them tree top over that crowd and I'll guarantee many of them disperse. That's lots of ways they could have tried to help those 4 without really engaging if that's what the hold up was? May give you enough time to get help there?

Maybe. Hard to say. I'm sure I'd know more about the situation in order to have a more informed opinion, but then again, the victims (or families of the victims) are hardly the most appropriate resource to consult for a good analysis of how a situation was handled.

We're not at war with countries per se anymore. So yes, the rules have changed. This wasn't the Libyan government killing Americans.

US captures an OBL son-in-law.

But why are they bringing him to New York?

Sulaiman Abu Ghaith, identified by counterterrorism officials as a spokesman for the terror group once led by his father-in-law, was recently deported from Turkey to Jordan, where U.S. agents captured him, one person familiar with the case said.

On Thursday, officials said the suspect was in federal custody in New York City and would likely make a court appearance later this week. It wasn't yet clear what specific charges he faces, but U.S. officials consider him a longtime member of the core al Qaeda terrorist group.

The suspect was flown to New York by the Federal Bureau of Investigation last week, and he has been talking to interrogators since then, according to the people familiar with the case.
