Well, it's too late to save him. He took the risk, there's always a risk of death being an ambassador to a country like that. So, is it ok? Not the term I would use but I think it's something that could happen and on the tragic scale I find it lacking.

Does that mean that, if a fireman is unable to save someone from a burning building, it's the chief's fault? The financier? Perhaps the civil service examination proctor?

The weirdest disconnect in the whole thing is the complete disregard for the fact that, in general, the Libyan people like us. But what we really should have done is go in guns blazing, collateral damage galore, turned the country against us, in a vain attempt to save the ambassador. Got it. :rolleyes:

If it was you or a member of your family in there, would your view be a bit different?

Countries also respect strength. Remember our history with the Barbary Pirates. The rule is "You mess with America at your own peril." Guess the rules have changed.

You take 2 F16s fly them tree top over that crowd and I'll guarantee many of them disperse. That's lots of ways they could have tried to help those 4 without really engaging if that's what the hold up was? May give you enough time to get help there?

Maybe. Hard to say. I'm sure I'd know more about the situation in order to have a more informed opinion, but then again, the victims (or families of the victims) are hardly the most appropriate resource to consult for a good analysis of how a situation was handled.

We're not at war with countries per se anymore. So yes, the rules have changed. This wasn't the Libyan government killing Americans.

US captures an OBL son-in-law.

But why are they bringing him to New York?

Sulaiman Abu Ghaith, identified by counterterrorism officials as a spokesman for the terror group once led by his father-in-law, was recently deported from Turkey to Jordan, where U.S. agents captured him, one person familiar with the case said.

On Thursday, officials said the suspect was in federal custody in New York City and would likely make a court appearance later this week. It wasn't yet clear what specific charges he faces, but U.S. officials consider him a longtime member of the core al Qaeda terrorist group.

The suspect was flown to New York by the Federal Bureau of Investigation last week, and he has been talking to interrogators since then, according to the people familiar with the case.
