The 4th Global War on Terror - Deja vu all over again!

Re: The 4th Global War on Terror - Deja vu all over again!

Given Ms Rice' prominent role at the Republican convention, perhaps President Romney would appoint her again?? ;)

Would she even want it? Plus, I think a president-elect Romney would want to avoid giving the chattering class "resurrection of the Bush administration" ammunition. Remember Kissinger was National Security advisor and not SecState when Nixon made his boldest foreign policy moves. The action was in the oval. Poor Bill Rogers was SecState.

Watching a PBS feature about the Cuban Missile Crisis. Wonder what would happen today under the same circumstances?

Re: The 4th Global War on Terror - Deja vu all over again!

Watching Soviet War Scare 1983 on Military Channel now.

Re: The 4th Global War on Terror - Deja vu all over again!

So a man with direct ties to Iran tries to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the US by blowing up a restaurant in Washington DC, and actually pleads guilty!

No mention of this case at all by either master debater Monday night, nor by the moderator either.

Nothing to indicate that Iran will be held accountable for an overt act of aggression against the US on US soil either.

Arbabsiar pleaded guilty to three counts related to the murder scheme, admitted to conspiring with Iranian military officials and faces up to 25 years in prison. [emphasis added]

Re: The 4th Global War on Terror - Deja vu all over again!

We'd apologize to Russia and Cuba.

To get an idea of what the country went through during the crisis, I'd recommend "13 Days." It lays on the Kennedy hagiography a little too thick, but gets the big picture essentially correct. We were scared. Really scared.

President Kennedy: Have you canceled Chicago and the rest of the weekend yet?
Kenny O'Donnell: You don't show for Chicago, everyone'll know there's something going on.
President Kennedy: I don't care! Just cancel...
Kenny O'Donnell: Forget it!
[Kennedy glares at him]
Kenny O'Donnell: I'm not calling and canceling on Daley!
[Kennedy glares again]
Kenny O'Donnell: You call and cancel on Daley!
President Kennedy: You're scared to cancel on Daley?
Kenny O'Donnell: You're d*mn right I'm scared.
President Kennedy: Well I'm not.
Kenny O'Donnell: [to Bobby] Watch this.
[cut to Kennedy's arrival in Chicago]

I would kill to be a chemical engineer and work at Google to design their cooling systems. What an epicawesome job.

Re: The 4th Global War on Terror - Deja vu all over again!

I thought a Mech Eng would do that?

They probably could. But when it comes to the engineering world, there are no better experts on large-scale heat and mass transfer processes than chemical engineers. It's why they're the highest paid degrees. It's why most project engineers at places like Mother Mining are chemical engineers as opposed to the other disciplines. At least in my department.

Balderdash. Heat transfer and internal flow mechanics are classic sub-fields of mechanical engineering. Why would they pay a Chem E salary when a Mech E would do it better anyway?

lulz.

Not every day an argument breaks out on this board pitting mechanical engineering against chemical engineering. All we need is Scooby coming in hear blaming Romney somehow.

Lynah and dx when they finally meet ;)

Re: The 4th Global War on Terror - Deja vu all over again!

My roomie in college was a ChemE -- until he ran into PChem and OChem. Then he switched to some other engineering degree...

And just remember, a CivE built the roads and bridges to get you to where you were going!
