The 4th Global War on Terror - Deja vu all over again!

The president of the United States goes to the UN to make a speech. Does he offer a full throated defense of our First Amendment? He does not. Does he pander to Islamists and their governments? You betcha. In "7 Days in May," General James Mattoon Scott had it about right, IMO, when he described the president as: "A criminally weak sister."*

Barack Carter Chamberlain Obama

*And no, ladies of the chorale, I'm not suggesting General Scott's solution to the "problem" as he saw it.

You just go on believing that Skippy!

Wow. You couldn't be more wrong.

Wow yourself. Did he or did he not, once again, advance the thoroughly discredited notion that some video nobody's ever heard of had anything to do with the murder of four US diplomats? You ladies are going to have to get your talking points straight. In the meantime, His Grovelness will continue apologizing to thugs, dictators, murderers, head choppers, stoners, and bombers for the First Amendment. This was a "teachable moment," where POTUS could have taught the savages how things work in a democracy. He failed.

Re: The 4th Global War on Terror - Deja vu all over again!

This new round of coordinated Al Qaida inspired activity throughout the Middle East is another good indicator why chess should be a required part of the curriculum in US elementary and secondary education. We need to teach children how to think ahead and anticipate, not merely react, so that they grow up to become adults who can think ahead and anticipate.

I could understand some of these oversights by some people, but we have tremendous talent and intelligence here. How is it that there is no one across the spectrum who doesn't seem to be taken by surprise? Unwarranted complacency is extremely dangerous.

This should not be a partisan political issue. There are people in this world who wish us serious harm. At least the conversation should be how to deal with that. The failure to touch upon this very important strategic and tactical objective -- survival and safety -- is extremely worrisome.

Frankly, the response from some quarters to ignore totally any discussion of risks, how can you rationalize that away?

What should have happened already is that Romney and Obama sat down together in private, just the two of them, and made sure to speak with a single, unified, co-ordinated voice on as much as they could agree upon in as broad a manner as they could have stated: "No matter which one of us is elected, this is where the US stands on these things, like free speech and tolerance of other religions. no matter how much you agitate we are not going to change our society to be censorious and oppressive." Both of them standing together. Carrying exactly the same message.

Pio is so completely blinded by hatred he doesn't think straight. Let it go.

I hate America's enemies. And want them dead. You, on the other hand, appear to hate Mitt Romney. And you're gutless as well.

That's a terrific suggestion. We have, instead, a president vigorously trying to deflect attention from his failed foreign policy by blaming a fictitious video for a wave of attacks against our diplomatic missions, and the killing of four diplomats. He continues to suggest this wave of attacks, which "co-incidentally" started on the anniversary of 9/11 were "spontaneous." Even though the administration's narrative has been shown, at a minimum, to be a fiction, he continues to offer this ridiculous "explanation." He's got an election to win, and dead American diplomats just don't show up on his radar.

Meanwhile, some of the president's Islamic supporters in KC have an idea on how to eliminate this silly business of Americans giving "offense" to people who are, shall we say, easily offended.

BTW, 2012 is the 65th anniversary of the AK-47. Nice weapon.

Our dear conscience, Pat Buchanan weighs in: http://buchanan.org/blog/americas-last-crusade-5242

Now that's a good article. I wish the GOP was like him...there's be a lot more room for partnering and problem solving. Not a black/white perspective.

The minor picks I'd add include calling Bush policy 'Wilsonian'. Wilson joined WWI which due to horrible loss of life and mass expansiveness is generally considered a good move by history. Bush's policy does not compare. Also he is putting Obama's passive approval of a democracy of the level of involvement of Bush foriegn invasions. And lastly of course, I disagree with pinning all this on Islam which is a trap he's falling into.

But that's a guy who can be part of a foriegn policy solution.

Old Pio, I think its time for you to take a nap. Tell the nursing home attendent that you want to go nite-nite.

Each year the polar ice retreats. Bi-lal Kaifa.

But these are year over year comparisons.

On the other hand, Ithaca with a Palm Springs climate sounds like a nice place to retire...

Pat's one of those guys who looks good from a distance but if you get a little closer you start to see the cracks. The "Wilsonian" comparison you point out is the crux of Pat's argument: America should not have gotten involved regardless of the human cost "other there." Pat's actually pretty dicey about whether or not we should have fought the Germans in WW2.

He can't help falling into the "clash of civilizations" mindset because it is quintessentially Jesuit. Pat's different in that he thinks we should protect ourselves but allow the clash to work itself out without intervening. Well, that's half better than the Neocons anyway.

There's also something about Pat that makes me doubt the veracity of anything he ever says, from political pronouncements to benign statements about the weather. He is a DEFCON Donald Trump-level self-promoter. Pat never saw a camera he didn't like, and at any given time I think about half of what he ways is just a way of keeping his buzz up.

Still, he's usually worth reading if it isn't about immigration, where he's just a garden-variety racist.

Bottom line is, if Romney is elected President the terrorists will be using our skulls for salad bowls while he tries to organize a leveraged buyout of their organizations.

Where others see only terror, Mitt sees opportunity.
