Re: The 3rd official 09-10 Maine season thread: Bubble-icious

The correct analogy is Lake Superior State, not Lowell. You lose 100 Timmay points.

Now that's funny!

On Tim's extension we can agree on a couple of points.

#1 While Maine was picked to finish 8th both the pro Tim set (like me) and the TIMMAY posters all expected this team to be better! My expectations were 4th or 5th and I know we all would have signed up for home ice!

#2 Having said that, had Maine, after closing the season being swept at home, also been swept by Lowell it would have been a disappointing season.

#3 The way the team was prepared to play with their #3 goalie in net, and the way they responded in beating Lowell 2x's and BU and then losing to BC provided us all with reasons to be optimistic about the future.

Finally #4 Next year is filled with expectations and with that new challenges for the coach and players. We expect Maine to contend for 1st in Hockey East and to make the NCAA tournament. Anything short of that will demonstrate real concern.

On the plus side we saw the reemergence of Maine Hockey, and the development of a strong freshman class and a sophomore class that got better! And what was left of the junior class forwards after the dismissals last year was better than expected as Dee finally emerged and House proved to be a great captain!

We are all in agreement that goaltending is the big ?.

Obviously I am of the belief that an extension is warranted. I have confidence that we will see a better team next year which will hopefully set us up for a new run despite the losses we will suffer after next season, not from the senior class but from the likes of Flynn, O'Neill, and Nyquist (if in fact he is around next year).

So the recruiting is really going to need to continue to attract some elite players, and we could use some forwards taller than 5'8" with the rest of our forward recruits!

Agree with others, IF (and many of you don't agree) you have the right man for the job (and I believe we do) you extend him, and not for one year as Lowell did. I am confident we are past the recent bumps in the road (okay they were more than bumps) and are ready to retain our status as one of the big 4 in the league! Flame Away!:D

No flaming here. Great post, I agree.

I just usually like to get BassAle going with TIMMAY comments when I can. :D

I figured 6th so good improvement over what I thought. Darlings run in the middle of the season, Gus's line, House and Dimmen being great captains, Dee being the guy we hoped he'd be based on what Minnie guys told us. Shemansky at the beginning of the season, Diamond at the end of season. Other freshman exceeding expectations also.

The biggest reason to think Tim has the team on the right path, the team was ready, he was ready and almost did the job. Still disappointed though:D

This could be a deal breaker, not convinced Darling is coming back or is the guy to lead the team if he does?

He has a year to go, why not extend with another year with the promise of longer if indeed the team performs. Won't happen but I think that's fair. Probably get another 3 years?

Re: The 3rd official 09-10 Maine season thread: Bubble-icious

If you watched them vs BU and BC, that about sums up the teams direction. That was a Maine team of old and I loved seeing them back in Boston.

Used to be like old home week with Maine, BU, BC and UNH heading to the final 4. Maine always brought the most passionate fans and even though it sucked to lose, the team represented the base well and had a lunch box mentality that all true Mainers love

Re: The 3rd official 09-10 Maine season thread: Bubble-icious

He also had excellent on ice leadership from players.

That to me is the real reason for any success we had this past year. Watching the leadership of Tanner House and Jeff Dimmen was a pleasure. True leaders and great representatives of the program.

Re: The 3rd official 09-10 Maine season thread: Bubble-icious

I not a Timmay fan, but you have to look at how they made the run. It had alot to do with coaching (ugh that hurt) ;) . I see a different Timmay then I did at the begining of the season.

The run you speak of lasted all of two weeks. Prior to that we went 2-6 to end the regular season. We got home ice not by winning a game to clinch it, but by others losing. We backed in.

This team has a great deal of promise, and played very well at times.

If you give any credit to Timmay making things better, then you have to also recognize that he bears at least some responsibility in getting there (at or near the bottom of Hockey East) in the first place.

Our last three regular season finishes:
9th
8th
4th

Re: The 3rd official 09-10 Maine season thread: Bubble-icious

It was so fun watching UNH pound Cornell and Vermont push Wisconsin to the limit.........

On a side not..........the crowds for these regionals today STUNK!!! I know that many have shot down any thoughts of ever hosting an NCAA Regional in the State of Maine (Portland or Bangor) but gimme a break!......I saw 2,000-3,000ish crowds today.......it was horrible! I guarantee that a Regional held in Bangor or Portland would draw 6,000 EASILY (and maybe more depending on building capacity). And is it me or does the NCAA Hockey tourney seem less "sexy" than it used to be?

I thought it was fun watching UNH pound Cornell. I'm so glad I'm not a Cornell fan, god they suck. Lets play keep the puck pinned on the boards and never take a shot.

As far as attendance goes, pretty tough for a friday game and you have to travel hours to get there. We all know Maine would have packed the place just the same though:D I'll bet UNH packs it tonight. They 're going to Detroit, while Maine plays golf

Don't count out RIT they can beat UNH.

Re: The 3rd official 09-10 Maine season thread: Bubble-icious

The crowd size in Albany was awful. Frankly, I agree with Sandiego. You have Cornell, RIT, and UNH in Albany, and you have attendance issues?? I know we are talking about the early Friday games, but still. It is not like you have Bemidji, UAH, Alaska, and Denver as your schools here. There should be a fan base that is willing and able to travel to Albany for the schools that are playing there.

I am not sure when, why, or how, but it does seem like something has been lost in recent years and it does seem a little less "sexy".

Without Maine in there, any tournament these dayz isnt sexy.

Attendance in Albany was announced at 4000. St. Paul was 7200. That is being generous, I think.

A regional held in Bangor or Portland would draw just as lousy a crowd as Albany, but you keep deluding yourself that a regional in Maine is the NCAA's panacea. There aren't 6000 Mainers who are going to drop $90 a person for two days of college hockey.

I love Bangor but it aint happening. Where would they stay? Twin City?

Bangor has zero 3 star hotels and couldnt do it

Portland could and it would be nice

There are over 500 rooms just at the Bangor mall. 3 or 4 brand new hotels in the last year built in Bangor.

I disagree. Plus it wouldn't be just Mainers. I bet the CCC would be completely sold out. Look at the AHL all star game. It's not like there's so much to do in Portland that would take away from an event like that.
