I hear ya. I had to help my buddy the other weekend because his landlord "fixed" his toilet (the flapper needed to be replaced) by replacing the whole thing and then didn't install a wax ring. Nasty doesn't begin to describe what I had to deal with.

Obviously not. That is in fact the same attitude I was complaining about, if you read more carefully. Guns have nothing to do with the crimes people commit, except as an accessory to the crime. Owning a gun cannot of itself turn anyone into a criminal or murderer.

Heard something interesting which is the # of gun owners in the country has been declining over the past 50 years, but the #'s of guns sold is up as the people who are already owners are buying more to compensate. One wonders if the "gun lobby" is in fact as strong as they like to think they are.

I hear there are 250,000 new NRA members in the last couple weeks, but not sure how accurate that is.

Either that, or because of the amount of asinine regulation, people don't want to admit they are gun owners.

I am one of them. I have owned guns since I was 11 years old, but until now I didn't see a need to be a member of the NRA, now I definitely do.

honest question, would a legal gun owner be impacted if buying a gun was a 2 week long process instead of the shorter version today? If they put some kind of 'reasonable' check and balance process in to do better background checks and other confirmations...would you envision that being a real burden?

To me, anybody that NEEDS a gun in 2 days or 2 hours is concerning. But I am not a gun guy. Hunting or otherwise.

I guess a guy on a hunting trip could want to buy one if his gun broke or something but how often do people really need one quickly?

For the rest of you, not saying that would solve every issue or that every killer is on "the list", just asking a couple of questions of somebody with practical experience

Look at the dopes in Congress, you think this isn't happening? They might not get us with weapons of mass destruction or by regulations they don't pay for or enforce but they're getting us.

Seriously? Do you really think you can mass murder a group of people with a sharp stick?

Did you get one in your ear as a kid?

That has to be the most absurd counter example of mass murder of all time. Unless you think you can get a group of people to stand still while you jump between them while you stab them in the throat. Or do you think kids are so fat that you can turn off their wheelchairs?

Sticks are not bullets. At least I can't outrun a bullet being shot at me.

One of the biggest scams going right now is thinking the NRA represents gun owners rather than gun manufacturers. There's certainly some overlap, but don't think they won't step on the wishes of lifetime members if they can make more $$$.

Without gun owners, there's no need for gun manufacturers. Perhaps that's why people are doing lifetime memberships, though, so they get a better deal.

I ended up having to buy my son a rifle for a gift just a couple of days before Christmas due to a few different delays on my part. I guess if I knew the check would take that long, I could plan for it. But it would be an "inconvenience". My main concern here is how expensive would a check thorough enough to take two weeks be, and who is going to pay that fee for every new purchase? It would amount to an incredibly high "sin tax" on guns.
