Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

one other thing, Maine is going to regret leaving 2 points at PC when the the season is over

Wilson should've started that game. Don't worry about next season with the backup goalie thing, we have something decent going this year, so go with someone who has experience in the conference, I don't care what his record was coming in was. Sirman can work on his game over the summer -- play for this year, as it would've helped Maine's record (possibly), and who knows, maybe that would've helped with recruiting????

I wouldn't say starting a DII goalie that's never won on the road would have made any difference in the outcome. The team can't hang the goalie out to dry.

This team will regret leaving 2pts in other places before the season is over.

Maine is better than PC, I'm not sure they're better then other teams in HE and that includes MC.? We'll see on MC when they play at MC

Agree about the goalies.

Will O'Neill's not better than he was last year? Tanner House isn't better than he was as a freshman?

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

A Hockey East coach made the following post-game comment concerning his team's performance in a loss, see today's Boston Globe:

“I don’t want to take away from how well [the other team] played, but I thought we absolutely stunk,’’ said [whose] coach [named here]. “It’s obvious to me that leadership is lacking. Our juniors and seniors had horrible nights. I thought we had a pathetic emotional effort. Our team was not ready to play. It’s a sad statement that our team, that my team, cannot seem to get themselves mentally ready to play a hockey game. They’re so easily satisfied or it just isn’t that important to them.’’

seems some coaches are ready to call out their team when warranted. why don't certain others ?

alas, the fate of UMaine over the last three seasons...

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

If you're talking TIMMAY, he's had no problem laying the blame at the feet of his players. Never takes any responsibility for himself though.

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

I thought Sirman had one hell of a game even after the Bears defense left him out to dry a couple of times. He was squared up to the shooters and move well side to side and never got caught in deep. A great game for a freshman looking for some confidence. I love the reaction between him and Darling after the game in the tunnel with a double high five and a hugh hug.

Speaking of Will O'Neill, he scored a beautiful goal last night (4th in the game), on an assist from Nyquist. Campbell (goal tender), never saw it. Anyone who says this team isn't better or doesn't have more confidence hasn't been paying attention, in my opinion.

It was an exhibition game against kids, don't get too excited. HE points is what they need, a weekend ago they got nothing. Looking better for sure but still not where I want them

So...........Where do you want them?

So...........Where do you want them?

I want them to beat the worst team in HE, I want them to compete against BC, I want them not to get blown out at UMass and at UNH. I don't expect wins in all those games but I expect them to compete.

you are right about Tanner... he is a HUGE surprise, in m book.. as a freshman, I wondered if he would ever amount to anything... right now, I can see him, if he continues to improve the way he has, playing in the NHL in a while.

ONeill, no, I do not see a lot of improvement. I think he was very good last season. The best thing Will has going for him is that he is the new Hopson, and when he makes a mistake, Tim overlooks it and he is allowed to continue to play his game without worrying about being benched for every little thing. He has not improved more than vandyke has, both are good.

but, no, I have not seen improvement in will worth mentioning

One thing Tim Whitehead said after the game yesterday is the defense gave USA too manyeasy shots on Sirman

IMO...I think that Cornell and Nemec are playing well for Maine, nothing spectacular...simple game with a little moxie....they have played well...make some mistakes but you can see they will be a important part of this team this year and the next few.....

I agree with you. Especially, Nemec. He is turning into a solid defensive player. He was red shirted last year and I think it has helped him. He spent last summer speed skating out in the mid-west (Wisconsin I believe), with Tanner House. Could have been others there?

Here's Larry's article on Saturday's game. I thought the players comments accurately described the game. Especially, the first period.

Neither played well on Saturday but both have shown steady progress since the start of the season. Freshmen make freshmen mistakes, unfortunately. :D A couple of times this season Cornell has saved goals by sweeping the puck out of the blue, while Nemec is using his size to his advantage.
