The 2022 Pairwise Predictor is live!

Wasn't there language about being able to view the higher seeds and the three lowest seeds in the opening round as "bands" of sorts? If so, then this looks like a place where they could potentially make a swap and get rid of the ECAC vs ECAC pairing in the first round. It can't be solved by swapping Harvard and Clarkson.

Wisconsin vs Clarkson is the quarterfinal that didn't happen two years ago. IIRC, Clarkson had even flown to Madison, and only found out about the cancellation when they arrived.

IMHO the seedings and games should go this way. The #1 seed is guaranteed to play one of the bottom 2, etc

1 Minnesota Plays Winner of 10 Clarkson vs 11 Syracuse
2 Ohio State Plays Winner of 8 Minn Duluth Vs 9 Harvard
3 Northeastern Plays Winner of 6 Wisconsin Vs 7 Quinny
4 Yale Plays 5 Colgate

IF this is an 11 team tournament, the #1 seed should be guaranteed to play the lowest seed possible (#10 or #11). The 2nd seed is guaranteed to play the next lowest seed pair etc. Just MHO for what it is worth (Nothing) ;-) .

I see what you're saying and understand its merits, but that isn't how the NCAA typically constructs any of its brackets for other tournaments. They are all about matching the seeds to sum to a certain value.

I think they set it up as a sixteen team bracket.
I can't get the image to upload but the 4 brackets are
1 vs 16 winner plays winner of 8 vs 9
4 vs 13 winner plays winner of 5 vs 12
2 vs 15 winner play winner of 7 vs 10
3 vs 14 plays the winner of 6 vs 11

So with the byes
1 vs winner of 8 vs9
2 vs winner of 7 vs 10
3 vs winner of 6 vs11
4 vs 5

I agree. But I do think that they might have some flexibility to move teams around, in particular, those in that third tier. And we'll just have to see what they do about flights.

I heard from one of the NU coaches that there is a day of rest between the first games and the regional finals. 8/9 play at #1's rink, day of rest, then the winner faces #1. Same format for the 7/10 winner vs #2 and 6/11 winner vs #3. I'm just hoping the NC$$ staggers the starting times of regional finals if they are all held on the same day.
