Re: The 2018 midterm elections!

I waited 6 hours in FL in 2016. (Voted by mail this time.) Florida is pretty weird but there's a couple things they do that are ok. One is the County Supervisor of Elections is a non-partisan elected position. Guess who got fired by the voters in my county when they finally got in to vote in 2016?

Not that it matters, because their will be 100 stories of people claiming voter suppression one way or another over every error that is made locally, but the "no cords" voter suppression video someone posted earlier in this thread is from Gwinnett County, GA, where the Chairman of the Board of Elections is Democrat appointed by the Gwinnett County Democratic Party. I seriously doubt he's in cahoots with Brian Kemp, but one never knows, I guess. Also it wasn't "no cords" but instead the Board said it was a problem with the machine printing ballots correctly. I've had about 50 printers, and in my experience no one should be relying on printers working for anything.

Re: The 2018 midterm elections!

Elections being run at the local level for state and national elections are inevitably a ****show in this country. On top of that, the people that end up running it on Election Day are largely volunteer and largely elderly. We'd ask the UN to investigate anyone else doing such a sorry/lazy/corrupt job.

Re: The 2018 midterm elections!

Polls have closed in Eastern timezone of Indiana and Kentucky, with the exception of Bloomington where they've been ordered open until 7. That is super early.

Re: The 2018 midterm elections!

It should be a federal law that all states must hold open polling stations until 8 PM local.

Eh, they open at 6am. Probably some archaic law connected to benefit farmers.

Re: The 2018 midterm elections!

Packed at my polling place just outside of Albany. Not a long wait by any means, but still a wait. Only hiccup I had was the scanner didn't take my ballot, but it was fixed. Heavily Democratic area, but our CD is not one of the ones in trouble as Paul Tonko won two years ago like 85%-15%. Looking at one adjacent district flipping in a close race though as Antonio Delgado looks to unseat Congressman John Faso, R.

Re: The 2018 midterm elections!

Why? There should be as much of an effort to cater to voters as possible. Heck, it should be federal law that everything can be mail-in if one chooses.
Would it make a ton of sense on one level to have standard election rules and ballot styles and hours, sure but we are a collection of states, regardless of what many people think so as long as its reasonable let each of them do what they decide for themselves.

LOL

“BREAKING: Georgia Secretary of State and gubernatorial candidate Brian Kemp received a voter card that said “invalid” when he tried to use it to vote on Election Day.”

Re: The 2018 midterm elections!

We're don't need standardized voting hours across states it should be a freaking national holiday.
