Re: The 2016 NCAA Frozen Four

Looked like Carpenter only had fumes in her tank for the entire game...illness?

When the "best offense in the country" can't score on a 5 on 3 you know something's amiss...maybe it isn't the best offense in the country.

Good entertaining game, great goaltending, but didn't live up to the over hyped billing in my opinion.

Congratutions to both teams for getting this far.

And BC did match UM's record...of two years ago...of going undefeated until the Championship Game...of little consolation to them I'm sure.

Actually, they lost to ND at Ridder, 3-2. 38-2-1.

I did not start to relax watching this game until there were 7 seconds remaining. Maybe it's from watching too many Gopher men's games.

I really enjoyed watching the games of this frozen four. Lots of intrigue and in the end I think Leveille was the main reason why Minnesota ended up as the champions.

Re: The 2016 NCAA Frozen Four

People wanted more scoring from this match up. But two great teams with two great goaltenders made each other really earn it!

Re: The 2016 NCAA Frozen Four

Way to go Minnesota, from the third seed no less. What an upset, eh?

Either Minny or Wisco would have won today, it just happened to be the Gophs I guess. Some would say BC would have finished fourth in the WCHA this year.

What a gut punch for the Eagles. I really do feel for them though, I mean having your first loss of the year in the nc? Wow. The unbiased hockey fan in me would have had BC win today. I mean when is it good for the same teams to keep winning over and over and over? I guess that could be a hold thread in itself.

Re: The 2016 NCAA Frozen Four

I really thought that was a spectacular game. More scoring, my azz. That was incredibly well played and thrilling.

Katie Burt was unreal. BC's first line must have played for 35 minutes.

This is really disappointing. But I think that was the epic BC/UM game we'd been advertised to get for the last several years.

If we have to lose I'm glad it's to the Gophers. You want to say you were able to slug it out with the best.

Always enjoy your posts. I typically lurk on this part of the board but wanted to come out of hiding to congratulate BC on a fine season. Fantastic game to watch!

Best of luck to your men's team next week. :)

Re: The 2016 NCAA Frozen Four

Congrats to Cara Piazza on MN, sister of Sam Piazza of Michigan.

It's a shame to see the sisters of our players going elsewhere because Michigan doesn't have a team. J.T. Compher's sister is headed to BU.

There was real talk not that long ago of things coming together and a Varsity program forming, but things fell through when the now-fired AD was run out of town. It was really close to happening, too. :(

I think BC would have finished 3rd in the WCHA with a 32-6-2 record for the year losing to Wisconsin in the semis.

Re: The 2016 NCAA Frozen Four

Great hockey games! All 3! Thankfully the attendance was decent today so not totally embarrassed....TTT20 might be right as the game did move along but I concur that BC didn't seem to have any emotion.....they played their system to be sure but as the clock counted down the third, they seemed to play cerebral rather than forcing the play and doing anything to keep possession for attack... .unfortunately in watching these games this weekend, I must admit that the teams in the WCHA, playing each other all season, do get to a different level than the rest of the women's teams! Watching the Gopher/Badgers game, no wonder you guys get so spoiled out west! Every line, every player can accelerate, shoot hard, knows the game, sees the ice, etc.....aside from BC, no team can maintain that consistency when lines change......I loved watching them skate on the big ice as well.....in talking with Coach Durocher from BU, the women's game is phenomenal now, even compared to 3 years ago! Maybe it's the CWHL/NWHL existence now that shows the physical game women not only can play but enjoy, according to Durocher.....anyway, WE, gentlemen, as the one's who love this sport played by women, enough to write on these threads, have to find away to get the NCAA and the rest to care about this product! It's awesome! Great weekend, aside from us all feeling TTT20's pain......

I get the feeling it's difficult for Cara to root for the Gopher men's team vs Michigan.

It's one of the scandals or dishonors or shames of women's hockey that there is no D1 in the state of Michigan :(

Re: The 2016 NCAA Frozen Four

I think BC would have finished 3rd in the WCHA with a 32-6-2 record for the year losing to Wisconsin in the semis.

It's easy to make such a statement/come to such a conclusion after watching one game between the two teams. Granted I've felt that BC's high powered offense had as much to do with their cupcake filled scedule as it did with the talent on their roster, but had BC had to play Wisconsin 4 times, Minny 4 times, UND 4 times and BSU 4 times, all the players on their roster would have gotten a lot more experience playing against a higher quality of opponent and by the time the conf tourney came along and then the NCAA tourney, all of those high quality players would possibly have figured out how to play against the likes of Minny and Wisconsin and could have won them a Natl Title?

I've seen it in other sports, cfb and cbb, teams play a weak scedule and then lose come tournament time being unprepared to play against some of the best teams in the country. In cfb Big East teams and maybe ACC teams and now AAC teams suffer from this phenomena often. On the other side of the coin, I've seen teams barely make it into the NCAA tourney after struggling to get through a tough scedule only to hit the NCAA tourney and blossom. The UConn men's bb team might be the most recognizable example before they joined the AAC and some Big Ten mens bb teams have done the same over the years. On the Men's side for hockey, I think the old WCHA was such a grind that any WCHA team that got into the NCAA tourney was a team to be feared, while it seemed that some years CCHA teams were the teams going into the tourney unprepared for the tougher competition. There have been some obvious exceptions and the CCHA had some good seasons as a conf and the WCHA had some lesser seasons as well.

But I really think that is what happened today to BC. Clarkson was the first truly high quality opponent they played all year and they got behind against them and needed OT to beat them, and Minnesota was even better. Not considering the quick 1st goal, BC hung with Minny for most of the game, and each goalie had the same number of saves late in the game. But it seemed to me that BC just didn't know how to play against a team as good as Minny. So I agree with others that had Wisconsin won the semi-final game, they would have beaten BC as well. But had BC played the entire season in the WCHA, even if they had finished 3rd behind UMn and UW, they would have been a much tougher out in the NCAA tourney and could have even won it all. They obviously know how to win games.

But we'll never know for sure? Some of us will continue to follow many of these players as they move on into the Pro league or play in the next olympics, and then we'll learn a little more about them, but that will only be the stars on each team and they'll be playing on different teams with different linemates and they might even be playing against each other, seeing as some are Canadians and some are Americans, etc..

So what am I trying to say, well, I guess as much as I felt BC played a weak scedule, I don't think its right or fair or honest to belittle what they did this year to the degree some here have. Saying that they might not have finished any higher than 4th in the WCHA??? What evidence is there of that? The one game today that they played against Minny vs a team with nothing but players who have already won Natl Titles in the past, with the obvious exception of the frosh, of course??

BC pounded on UMD. And NE may have been a little overrated, but they were at least Top 10 and BC beat them what? 4-5 times, sometimes handily?

Had they played in the WCHA this season, I doubt they would have finished below BSU and UND, and though I think both UMn and UW are better than BC, its not by much and they may have swept both UND and BSU and the rest of the WCHA and been right there with UMn and UW? They may have gotten a series in vs Minny without Kessel and back when AL was struggling a little and may have gotten a sweep vs the Gophers, especially if it was a series out east. BC may have finished 2nd ahead of Minny in the conf standings and being more hardened from the conf grind, who knows about the WCHA conf tourney and then the NCAA tourney???

Hey, I enjoy the back and forth that goes on between western fans and eastern fans, and the Western teams have dominated so far, but Clarkson did beat a very good Gopher team 3 years ago and there have been some games where eastern teams have played very close vs western teams so I don't think its cool to belittle a team like BC and what they did this season. Going 40-0 going into the Natl Title game is not an easy task. It's hockey, very few hockey teams ever win so many games in a row.

Ok, I'm rambling, but I just feel strongly about this.

FredsDeadFriend thanks for the passionate post. Not to take away from your point, but I don't think there has been too many posts belittling BC or what they achieved this year. It seems to me almost all are giving BC the respect they have earned.

The USCHO recap has quotes from Andie Anastos describing what the seniors at BC have achieved and how they have established BC as one of the top programs in women's hockey. That's indisputable.

Re: The 2016 NCAA Frozen Four

BC is a great team. They are the 3rd best team I have watched play this year. I certainly do not think they would have gone undefeated in the WCHA. They may very well have split with both Minnesota and Wisconsin this year and had a tie or two with ND and Bemidji in games where their opponents two goalies stood on their heads. So winning 32 or possibly 34 games was really not being critical of them.

In 2003 MN had 2 of the best players in the history of women's hockey and they still lost in the semifinals. Experience and playing a tough schedule throughout the year means a lot and the returning players from that 2003 team showed that the next two years.
