The 2016-17 Schedules Thread

Re: The 2016-17 Schedules Thread

First of all, don't hold your breath ;) :D

Second of all, college hockey is often played on New Years Eve. Not every year, but most years. They shouldn't have to rework the whole hockey schedule around the 3 or 4 hockey schools who have decent football teams who might be playing that day.

No Students will be on campus your going to have a weak small crowd to begin with why schedule that game on that date to begin with? The Football game if it happens is just another obstacle. Wonder what the reason is for them not playing this game on Oct 14th at home.

I would also think the savvy school would be able to actually boost attendance for the hockey game if they had a football game on NYE (or another Bowl Game day). Depending on the time of the football game, you could say "Come to the hockey game and stay for a watch party" or "Come watch the football game with us and stay to cheer on the hockey team." But my team ends its football season in November and has no one go to see either team anyway so what do I know?:D

Wisco / Minny @ SLU/Clarkson last weekend in October. Not sure of the pairings.

Well, this is the first time I can actually believe it's going to happen since 2006 when that team was capable of and screwed over by the BCS due to the whining of the Florida coach. I recall OSU fans also calling that coach a whiny politicking baby. Funny how things work, isn't it?

Anyways, athletic departments that don't plan around football are making a big mistake. You're just going to eat into your attendance and screw the smaller sports over.

Michigan has traditionally avoided playing hockey games in timeslots that would clash with football. Basketball games played the day of the B1G Championship game are always against RPI 300 teams and are noon games just in case with an afternoon hockey game.

Re: The 2016-17 Schedules Thread

Not sure how I would be able to respond on the sheet, but there was some discussion about Colorado College's games with UNH and BC. Obviously CC had released what they released, and with that information, was under the presumption the two eastern teams would be playing either Air Force or Denver that weekend. However, given both have full NC slates, along with the discussion that the venue is switched, it seems more likely CC would be traveling instead of two eastern teams going to Colorado for one game. Therefore, we'll give it a swap.

Re: The 2016-17 Schedules Thread

Also putting in an educated guess about the WCHA final week: It will be the exact same thing as last year ("geographic" rivals), only with the locations reversed. I assume this is a safe assumption? It seems to have been this way the past few years.

I'd call that safe.

I can tell you that Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan will reverse their home games from last season's final week (NMU home Friday in 2017, Tech home Saturday) so that would support this argument.

Fair enough; thanks for the confirm. :) I'll see what other patterns I can take from this; thankfully have a number of past schedules will help with that. ;) I believe there was a pod structure mentioned previously; I'll see what I can do to figure that out.

WCHA Opponents should be the same as 2 years ago. Just flip the home ice for the four opponents that you play only one series against.

And is it an "ad infinitum" 4 year cycle, meaning who you played 3 years ago is exactly who you play next year? Or are they going to change their minds?

I'm holding all bets right now. But that's the way the original 4 year cycle has been. Year 1 & 3 and year 2 & 4, same opponents, just flip home ice for the singles.

Unless UA_ and UAF merge, ASU joins the WCHA, or something else. :)
