Re: The 2015 Pairwise, Bracketology and History Thread

They all had a huge impact, the odds of MTU falling to 7 were pretty low if I'm not mistaken. Every game except AHA had to go the way it did for them to fall that far...

Yes, and of course the result to the "absolute financial bath" situation is that no sites want to take on the risk. Heck, if Notre Dame takes financial beating this year, it might even be hard to get campus sites to host western regionals. And from a "fairness" standpoint, the NCAA dodged a major bullet this year when Notre Dame didn't make the tournament as a #4 seed and host a #1 seed.

Notre Dame assured themselves of at least a break even proposition probably by requiring season ticket holders to purchase NCAA tickets with their season package. That's 2500 or so tickets sold right there. Throw in the few dozen they will sell to interested locals and another few hundred each to the 4 teams participating and my guess is each session will show an attendance of nearly 4000. Of course the butts in seats will more than likely be far less than that, and my guess there is the numbers will be similar to the B1G tournament at the Joe.

Having not played d1 college hockey i'd be curious what would be considered more of an advantage...simply playing close to home or playing in front of a frenzied pro team x crowd. What's more important, the travel involved or the atmosphere you have to play in?

Who do they think they are, the NFL?:p

Then you can't say, even jokingly, that Manchester, NH is a "home" game for BU. It's in a different state.
BU will be on the road, staying in the Manch area Thursday and Friday nights. Providence will be home, staying in... Providence.

bu WILL be away from home (the best chance we have for continuous bu victories :D )!

Yeah, I know. The UND fan made a comment about how UND in Fargo is not a home game, and that BU will have more or less a home game for Regionals. Was trying to let him know playing in Manchester, while close to Boston, is nowhere near a home game. Nothing about Providence. I do think Providence may still need to stay at a team hotel this weekend. That may be an NCAA thing, but I could be wrong.

I should clarify. MIA was the last game to have a final, and that result so greatly affected where teams could go, SteveMN and I gave up trying to figure out scenarios, as it was useless until that final was in.

I think you need to go back and read what I had been saying. You apparently missed quite a bit.

Fargo will certainly have a "home" atmosphere, because even if a thousand MTU fans wanted to go there, its going to be impossible to find that many tickets...

Re: The 2015 Pairwise, Bracketology and History Thread

Since Providence gets a home game will Miami defer on locker room, bench selection and last line change opportunities on ice? Also, BC could be the first home team to lose those chances twice if both Harvard and BU make it to the Garden too. Would be fun to have 3 home teams in the semifinals though.

As I prepare to work on my brackets, I'm wondering if anyone has ever seen stats on the PWR position of frozen four participants over a period of like ten years? I've looked before but never seen anything. Thinking it's a long shot but thought I'd throw the request out there.

I would contact Fighting Sioux 23. He is into things like that and has done a ton of stat-crunching over the years.
