Re: The 2014 Pairwise, Bracketology and History Thread`

CHN simulated the conference tournaments a few hundred times and got Union as the #3 overall seed 100% of the time. So...

#1 Minnesota or Boston College
#2 Boston College or Minnesota
#3 Union
#4 Wisconsin, St Cloud, Ferris State, Quinnipiac, Lowell, Notre Dame, North Dakota

I don't believe anyone from Providence down has a chance at the final #1 seed.

Unless Yale ends up as a hosting 4 seed, Union will be #1 in Bridgeport. Boston College will be #1 in Worcester. Minnesota will be #1 in St Paul. One of the seven teams listed above will be the top seed in Cincinnati.

Eliminated:
Alabama-Huntsville
AIC
Army
Boston University
Brown
Harvard
Lake Superior
Massachusetts
Merrimack
Princeton
Rensselaer
RIT
Sacred Heart

Should be safe:
Minnesota
Boston College
Union
Wisconsin
St Cloud
Ferris State
Quinnipiac
Lowell
Notre Dame

In with a sweep this weekend:
North Dakota
Providence
Vermont

Can play their way in without autobid:
North Dakota
Providence
Vermont
Cornell
Michigan
Northeastern
Colgate
Minnesota State
Yale
Minnesota-Duluth

I don't see anyone else getting in without the autobid. Even Duluth is an outside shot. Yale sweeps this weekend and they could move all the way up to 12.

Now Jim Dahl will come in with his supercomputers and tell me what I screwed up :p

You forgot St Cloud is safe, too.

I would think northeastern would be in with a sweep , furthermore a UNH sweep and semi final win , they should be in .

To address simply this part:
Minnesota has a h2h win over BC. Therefore, regardless of RPI, Minnesota needs only to win CommOpp to win this compare, and the #1 overall. Michigan (Minny's opponent this week) and NotreDame (BC's opponent) are both CommOpp.

From Minnesota's standpoint:
If BC sweeps, Minnesota clinches the #1 (meaning regardless of the conference final weekend) with a sweep
If BC wins 2 of 3, Minnesota clinches with a win and a tie
If ND wins 2 of 3, Minnesota clinches with just one tie
If ND sweeps, Minnesota clinches by showing up.

A sweep doesn't quite do it for Northeastern. It would put them close, but if the cut line moves or they lose that Friday, they can fall out.

New Hampshire likely needs the autobid. A sweep this weekend only takes them to #18.

ouch that's it , are you certain that's as high as they go with two wins .

Unless everyone in front of them loses.

I did play around with the simulator but only could just change the team you clicked on , is that all this thing allows you to do . I went into modify game results finished entering in wins and loses for all the teams than hit submit but nothing happens . only when I selected on a certain team in the drop down box did it give me the desired results.

Oh great, you broke it :p

For some reason it will only work for one team at a time right now...it was working earlier. I'll let them know it's broken.

oh , so I was working it correctly , see you in Prov probably going to one of the games , work 4 min away from Schneider.... wait sometimes the all the teams will work ??

Things are messed up. When I did the simulation earlier a UNH sweep lifted the Wildcats to #18, now a sweep leaves them at #20 (Northeastern drops to 19).

Looks like we have to wait until CHN fixes whatever is wrong.

priceless did you inform them of their malfunction.

I haven't played with any of the tools, numbers, etc. But I have wondered why my fellow 'Cat fans think sweeping NU will move them much. Certainly it will switch the NU comparison from "them" to "us." But a sweep has absolutely no effect on CommOpp with anybody else, and anything less hurts them in that category. And at this point, how much positive RPI bump will they get from two NU wins at home? A semi-final win might do them some good, but assuming it is followed by a finals loss, not so much. Ironically, I would think the only way they could move high enough in the PWR, is by also earning the autobid (and then not needing it :p).

Sure, there were some big moves late in the season, but I attributed a big chunk of that to creating CommOpp cross links that did not exist until Team A played Team B for the first time. Plausible? Or my usual unsupported absurdity? :D

Re: The 2014 Pairwise, Bracketology and History Thread`

I heard back from Adam and the simulator should be back up and running again!

Re: The 2014 Pairwise, Bracketology and History Thread`

There is no way it is fixed. Nothing changed and I had sweeps galore and some splits. I for one am goig to let it play out this weekend

Re: The 2014 Pairwise, Bracketology and History Thread`

still issues just tried .

Will be interesting if these problems carry over to the YATC tool that gets released Sunday night.

You can contact Adam Wodon at adamw (at) collegehockeynews.com with what details of what you're doing so he can fix it.
