The 2013 Tournament Speculation Thread

Re: The 2013 Tournament Speculation Thread

I didn't hear because I was using an iPad and for some reason the NCAA broadcasts have no sound available for tablets.

Which is wierd. Usually, it's the video which is restricted on the iPad. I know some audio is, but that is so easily overcome (as opposed to some video streaming) that there is no excuse for an outlet to send audio out which does not play on an iPad.

Re: The 2013 Tournament Speculation Thread

Despite the poll on the NCAA.com Women's D-III homepage, the broadcast did correctly state that RIT wasn't in this year's tournament!

Although they didn't explain why. :)

Re: The 2013 Tournament Speculation Thread

Just looking ahead because well I have nothing to look forward to this season now, but what if we got WTOP to do a show much like Ray did, with video or combine the two?? Lou??

One other thing I think would be a plus would be to add other teams. Nothing against Utica, I get it and the players did a great job with the questions. But it would have been nice to hear from Hobart, Neumann, ect teams on the "bubble" as well as teams like UMass Dartmouth, Wentworth, Bowdoin ect. Teams already in. I understand what Ray did (and I'm not in one bit putting it down) by having all the "experts" on, just think it would be good to hear from a variety of players/coaches/administration. Could we work out a deal with the NCAA Committee? God forbid someone who's actually seen hockey and knows where the teams are actually make the announcement. Instead we get "Will RIT meet Norwich again in this years NCAA Tournament" poll....classic. We may not have ESPN, but even using Time Warner Cable Sportsnet has nothing but re-runs on at that time of night on a Sunday. WTOP could put it online as well for the rest of the country, or leave it like that who cares. Could teams/TV stations work together? Could you feed a line from say Northfield into the WTOP station for an interview? Get the local college TV broadcasters to work together? I know its a dollar and a dream, but Ray's show really started the mind going. I'm not a techy when it comes to that stuff, so Im not sure what it would involve...Lou??

Sorry I think I have a funeral or root canal or leg amputation or all three that day....Glad the girls are doing good, don't get me wrong, but its like Basketball on skates....

Speaking of which....Barry Melrose went head to head with Steven A. Smith on which teams "streak" is better: Miami Heat of NBA or Chicago Blackhawks NHL. It ended up in a Basketball vs Hockey argument.

"Basketball involves rebounding" SASmith - ever seen a scrum in front of the net A-hole?

"It (bball) involves passing" SASmith - really tool?

"It (bball) involves blocking shots" SASmith - Id love to see DDDDD Wade step in front of a Chara shot, next

"It (bball) involves defending" SASmith - Oh no don't hit my wrist

"It (bball) involves a level of athleticism that is unquestionable" SASmith - You're right, lets run down a court (or a light job most of the time) and watch people bounce a ball of the floor, and don't touch them or you will get a foul.

"When they're (hockey players) just sliding down the ice" SASmith - you can fit an NBA court in one end of a hockey rink, and that's INSIDE the blue line.

"You don't get to move in the sport of basketball unless you are running" SASmith - umm or walking like they do 90% of the time. Oh yea they jump high woo dippy doo....

"There's more parity in basketball" SASmith - Ummm the LA Kings were a what seed? The NBA has 10% more teams below .500 then the NHL, but I thought the NBA was better top to bottom..hmmm

Stephen A. Smith also said it was ridiculous that there were still ties in the NHL. Except there hasn't been a tie since...2004?

Stephen A. Smith is, was, and always will be an idiot (with the IQ of a bowl of soggy corn flakes).

The NBA is playing this season? I thought they were on strike?

He is a complete jerk. Anytime I watch him, he feels that being loud makes him right. A complete d-bag!

Very possible...if you have ever caught WTOP's live election night coverage, they are able to link (via Skype) with campaign headquarters across Oswego and Onondaga Counties...set up skype chats with teams prior to the selection process - invite radio php and players to talk it up...challenging, but not impossible...we can toss it around...getting TWCable involved, at least for the NYS teams, the links could be better than Skype...but it works! A worthy summer project...:D

Those of us old enough remember College Hockey USA (CHUSA) run out of the Twin Cities with Jim Rich and Frank Mazzoco. Highlights of last week's college games, interviews, a poll and some studio chat - all in 30 minutes.

THAT would be a hoot to produce. You could get Matt and Russell to give weekly commentaries, Prof with the rankings, a coach and player interview or two (Skype?), plus highlights from last week's key games and the key upcoming games.

Then there would be the goal call of the week. However, Ray would be the runaway winner. :)

Time Warner Sports in NY has a show like that concentrating on the NY teams. Though, for some reason, they spend a lot of time lately on Quinnipiac. Last I checked, they weren't in NY...

Yeah, like the NY Jets and the NY Football Giants

Re: The 2013 Tournament Speculation Thread

I have said this many times though, the Giant stadium is closer to NYC than the Bill's stadium is to Buffalo!

I was just about to respond the same way!

In fact, you can see the NYC skyline from the Metlife Stadium (Giants Stadium was torn down...). You sure as heck can't see the Buffalo skyline (not that Buffalo has a skyline) from Orchard Park.

Yes, and Champlain is closer to Canada than it is to the rest of the United States - but it still isn't Canada!!!
