The 2013 Tournament Speculation Thread

Re: The 2013 Tournament Speculation Thread

Then there are 3 western teams in the QF round...can't give a bye to the f4.

r
If 3W (and Adrian plays Oswego), you end up with one Round 1 game and then one Western QF, 2 Eastern QFs and one mixed QF.

Re: The 2013 Tournament Speculation Thread

Lets be clear about something. You don't have to abide by the travel restriction. It is highly encouraged, but the committee can ignore it. Just look at last year's (I think it was last year) D3 women's bracket.

The women's tournament was a 5-3 split last year. Somebody had to fly somewhere.

EDIT: unless that's the only "western" playin

Exactly. Adrian at Oswego with one play-in in the west and another one in the east.

But, I'm leaning towards two play-ins in the west.

My WAG is that this happens as well. Simple way out for the committee. One flight to Lake Placid, one additional flight (potentially) for the QF, rather than 2 guaranteed flights to Placid.

Re: The 2013 Tournament Speculation Thread

It's not so much the numbers, but getting three eastern teams to Lake Placid.

I guess what I was suggesting is that it seems to me to set the bracket up getting 3 east teams to the final 4 means that the #3 team in the east is better than the #2 team in the west? Or am I totally wrong? As I look at it one could make the case that Oswego seems very much over ranked based on their numbers yet is appears they will be ranked 3rd in the east.
As to two west play in games it really gets tough trying to decide what to do with Adrian because of the 500 mile issue

Agreed, 2 playins in the west (sorry), and a 3E, 1W F4. They won't set it up wherein there's a chance for a QF flight, it's just too easy to set it up otherwise.

But it still proves my point. If there was an absolute restriction, they would have forced a 4-4 split no matter what the numbers showed.

The point is, it's not an absolute restriction. People need to understand that.

The one bracket that gets the top 4 teams to Lake Placid, which should be a reasonable concept is to have all 3 first round games in the East. That clears the decks in a way so that it is possible to get a FF consisting of Norwich, Utica, SNC and UWEC.

What he said.

Sure that makes sense, but this is the wrong thread for that. :-)

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, if there's only 1 West team going to Placid, with 2 play-ins in the West, there is a chance of a QF flight.

But that's immaterial to my argument.

I'm suggesting other reasons for my bracket prediction.

Talk about multitasking ... I'm flipping the TV between the Rangers game and Wind Tunnel on SPEED, about to tune into the selection radio show, and participating in this thread.

Re: The 2013 Tournament Speculation Thread

True, I keep forgetting that Adrian flies to STJ. Do they fly to Eau Claire?

r

I believe they would have to fly everywhere other than SNC and Oswego. Although it doesn't make a lot of sense that they would bus to Oswego but would have to fly to Utica (more like fly to Syracuse and bus to Utica)
