The 2013 New England Patriots

Re: The 2013 New England Patriots

Can't believe Denver beat Green Bay, Denver D held Rogers to about 50 yds passing, wow. Looks like Denver is the team to beat in AFC now. Cincy held it together also but Pittsburgh Offense is awful, Green Bay isn't

Denver's D did make Rodgers look a lot worse than I expected. I'm still expecting Manning to break down when it gets colder out however. Beyond that though, I think home field advantage will determine who goes to the SB. Not sure who Denver has left on their schedule although they must have Oakland again who's actually decent this year.

Green Bay's passing attack may not be as as good as we thought. MMQB on si.com has an interesting analysis. Generally, the surprising number of undefeated teams is hard to evaluate because of the large number of crappy/mediocre teams in the NFL this year. And that includes the Pats' opponents to date.

Broncos win may not have been surprising, but the margin was. I thought the Green Bay TD was a gift from the refs. Maybe it was because the rusher hit his helmet, but he had about a half step to pull up, and didn't hit Rodgers that hard.

In addition to good throwing conditions, Manning also had the benefit of the bye this week. I'm sure that helped.

GLA will light them up. No worries

Mookie, when are the Steelers going to get rid of those stupid bumblebee throwbacks? Was it because it was Halloween? They are the dumbest throwbacks ever, except maybe for those bleu, blanc, and rouge pajamas that the Canadiens sometimes wear.

They are the worst! Don't know anyone who likes them. Friggin' hamburgler

Re: The 2013 New England Patriots

Whew. Felt like a loss. Now that it's over, I think that's better payback than a 45 - 14 drubbing.

Re: The 2013 New England Patriots

Tough win. Geesh what is it about the Giants? I guess its that Coughlin is the best coach that Belichick has had to face over the years.

Anyway, the Pats can live with Edelman for a time, as long as he's back for the playoffs. Now that Peyton's corpse is starting to rot over in Denver I'm not sure how many really tough games they have left. I'm not predicting an undefeated season of course but beat Denver and they're looking at no worse than a first round bye and maybe a trip to Cincy for the AFC title which they should be favored in. Just need to get healthy with Collins and Vollmer (shouldn't be a problem) and Edelman (more of a concern).

Yes, but why doesn’t Coughlin have more success against other coaches? Four games is more than a coincidence, and I’m starting to think that one thing that Coughlin does better than anyone else is not to outthink himself and/or shid in his pants when he’s up against Belichick. Some other coaches do.

Yeah, best case scenario is that Edelman’s back for the playoffs, without as many games of wear and tear on his body. He’s tough as nails, but he gets beat up a lot. Time for Dobson, LaFell, and Keyshawn Martin to step up. Be nice to see if between them there’s a semblance of a long passing attack; that showed some signs of happening last night.

The decision to let Browner (leads the league in penalties and becoming a bad sideline presence) and Revis (starting to show decline) go, which I disagreed with at the time, is starting to look better. Butler looked surprisingly good last night (first TD was McCourty’s fault and one of the PI calls was really bogus). Third corner got torched last night, but the cost of keeping Revis on a balloon payment (or a longer term expensive extension) would have undoubtedly meant depth problems.

My take on Coughlin is that he doesn't beat himself as you mentioned. Coughlin realizes that aside from last year, the Pats secondary has been suspect since Ty Law left, and he attacks it relentlessly. If you keep throwing deep you will either 1) hit on big plays, or 2) get multiple pass interference calls. I'm amazed more teams don't do that on the Pats. Secondly, he doesn't fear Brady and sends an actual pass rush against him instead of getting picked apart in a soft zone. He correctly made Brady throw deep last game and had a game ending INT in his grasp until the guy dropped it.

I don't necessarily blame them on Revis, but they should have kept Browner. A cap friendly deal and he's far better than whoever is out there now. That would make Logan Ryan the 3rd CB off the bench. Those two were atrocious yesterday.

Browner and Butler at the corners would have been great. Not sure why anyone thinks Brady can even throw a deep ball now, I don't believe he can. Need slot guys not guys who can get open deep

You missed the 50 yard throw and catch to Lafell yesterday?

He's been flagged 17 times in 10 games, 9 of those were for holding. I don't think he could cover me.

Thinking about it realistically, just clinch the division and clinch the bye and hope there are no more injuries to key players. I'm thinking keeping the team healthy is the main thing and once they clinch, play key players like Gronk less and forget the ideas about the unbeaten season.

I'm hoping they can get more depth with some kind of trade or pickup, especially from a team already out of the fight.

Edelman hopefully will be ready by playoff time and we get back other players on the line.

Dobson needs to step it up and fight for the ball when the ball is under thrown or badly thrown. He just sort of stands there not knowing what to do in situations like that. I like to see him be more aggressive towards the ball when it is thrown to him.

We were quite lucky the ball hit the ground on that possible pick by the Giants at the end ) Amendola really stepped it up on that winning FG and had a nice run back on that punt only to be tripped by his own player.

Yeah I was in a plane but I didn't miss the under thrown ball late that should have been an INT. most of the long passes I've seen him throw this year have been short.

You might be right but I think playing for Belichick and playing for whoever are 2 different things
