The 2012 Presidential Election Part I - The guns of August

Re: The 2012 Presidential Election Part I - The guns of August

Hey! Vitter pays for stuff. Those prostitutes he hired, for example. That upstanding conservative that he is...;)

At least he didn't use taxpayer dollars, unlike those Treasury representatives... ;)

Re: The 2012 Presidential Election Part I - The guns of August

Not at all. If you put a "free lunch" in front of someone, they'd be a fool not to take it. Of course, as you and I could certainly agree, there's no such thing as a free lunch.

Of course theres no such thing.

Yet Vitter didn't just 'take' a free lunch. He has repeatedly gone out of his way to ask for one.

Re: The 2012 Presidential Election Part I - The guns of August

.85 Democratic
.75 Green
.55 Libertarian
.44 Republican

Gary Jonson; 82% :)

That implies at least a 68% overlap between Gary Johnson and Democrats, so I'm not sure how that can be possible....

I think it's just not a very comprehensive test. There are several areas where I break SEVERELY with the Democratic party (public sector unions, welfare reform, affirmative action, etc) which were not touched on. Pick a different subset of issues, and I'm pretty sure that my results would swing wildly - I'm a bit schizophrenic that way.

Re: The 2012 Presidential Election Part I - The guns of August

Forbes has a preference indicator out.

My results were:

.98 Democratic
.94 Green
.46 Libertarian
.04 Republican

.71 Dem
.70 Rep
.69 Green
.65 Lib

not sure if this is supposed to make sense. They're giving Romney a slight edge over "Johnson", Paul, and Obama, in that order, while calling me a Democrat. My results get all screwed up because I want to do everything we can for immigrants, oppose death penalty, etc. so they don't know where to put me.

I saw some questions about that stuff. There is a small link below some of the questions that says "click for X more questions" which then appear when you click on it. Thats where I saw some questions on that stuff.

I think it's a useful view because rather than try to find coordinates on a Cartesian grid of ideologies, it simply tries to rate the degree of policy overlap. That takes into consideration that party positions often have built-in contradictions.

Just one more data point to take into consideration.

I think anybody politically active enough to be posting on political threads already knows which candidate they are backing, unless they are wavering on whether to back a third party.

It appears that I am quite amiable, getting along with everyone more often than not.

79% Republican
68% Green
63% Libertarian
57% Democratic

Not sure how affiliation to college ice hockey will affect the election, Paul Ryan supposedly played ice hockey while attending Miami (OH); and I notice Mike Eruzione is scheduled to speak Thursday night, one of the Olympians who will be introducing Mitt.

Odd, I seem to be like Fresh Fish in liking a little of each party.

Who you side with by party...
83% Democratic
76% Green
68% Libertarian
54% Republican

It's interesting that the breakdown goes:
72% Barack*Obama on foreign policy, social, environmental, and immigration issues*
68% Mitt*Romney on economic, science, and immigration issues

Had Romney run in 08, I would have voted for him instead of Obama... And I'm usually a staunch Democrat voter.

Do you mean Romney ver. 08 running in '08, or Romney ver. 12 running in '08? :D

In a sense that's unfair, as Romney's basic philosophy has remained unchanged all these years. He's an Opportunist.

What used to be a prime time process, they are now calling the roll to nominate Mitt as the GOP nominee.

I would imagine that Massachusetts will put him over the magic number. DC just gave its 19 votes to Mitt. I don't know if he's going to get that much in the general.

And who can forget "Ohio passes for the moment!"

Do I need to have any fingers to count the politicians that aren't?
