The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Greipel got stage 1 at the TDU, beating Steegmans from Radioshack. McEwen was down in 8th.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Second Stage same as the First, Greipel takes the 2nd stage. Highlights More Highlights

Also noticed in the highlights something that stunned me, His Yellowness doesn't wear his World Champion bands on his arms...

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

This season is just a repeat of last year for HTC.
Another sprint win for Greipel today.

I would like to see Greipel and Cavendish square off in a Grand Tour.
Would HTC actually bring along two sprinters to the Tour?

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Some decent cycling this weekend...AC win Volta ao Algarve ahead of Lulu Sanchez (who won the final TT) and Tiago Machado of Radio Shack. AC's TT bike got banned yesterday by the UCI and he rode 2nd to LL on a stock TT bike. He also won the "mountain top" finish on Friday.

Also Christophe LeMevel won the 2-day Tour du Haut Var. Nocencini won yesterday and I just watched LeMevel win a from a small group today. I think Voeckler was 2nd both on the stage and for the tour. FDJ has had a MASSIVE start to the season with like 3 or 4 stages in various races and the overall here.

Also Valverde won the Tour of the Mediterranean.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

The biggest cycling news so far? No podium guys:

Angelo Zomegnan, the director of the Giro d'Italia, has squashed the debate about possible 'podium guys' during the opening stages of the Giro d'Italia in the Netherlands by saying that the pink jersey will be presented by Italian podium girls.

Marco de Goede of the GroenLinks party had argued during a local council meeting that having podium girls was outdated and sexist. Because Amsterdam is known as the gay capital, he suggested that men or drag queens should be used for at least one stage finish presentation.

Phew. That was close. :D

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Brian, you're right that is the most important news...The Giro usually has some top quality podium girls!

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Sacre Bleu - or whatever the equivalent is in Italian - what are they possibly thinking? Podium guys??? Even my wife thinks that is a bad idea.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

I just got a chance to watch the finish...Sagan has been impressive! And Jens too! Alas I fear the Jens may be out of yellow tomorrow, Mende has 'Berto written all over it. Can Conti take 20 sec from Jens in the 3 K? Or is there a time bonus on the line?

Wow, just watch the end of Tirreno-Adriatico...craziest last K I've ever seen!

Just to update all the cycling news from the last week or so...

Conti wins Paris-Nice ahead of Valverde and LL Sanchez.
Garzelli shakes of Father Time to pip Scarponi and Evans at Tirreno-Adriatico.
Conti to face LA at Crit International!
Valverde's CONI ban is upheld by CAS and EXTENDED world wide by UCI!

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Good move by Cancellara to win Tour of Flanders today. once he dropped Boonen and was all alone you kind of knew he was going to win.
