The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

They're under 500 because they can't hit a wide open net to save their @ sses.

This. And the fact that they were scrambling around the BC zone every time they set up. BC was very, very good at playing aggressive D, and as a result, a lot of BU's shots appeared very fast and panicked, without a lot of time to set up.

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

No, that's what we call "contact to the head- roughing."

umm no, but i fully expected interference to be called. BU got their PP right after that anyway.

Also, I doubt Gryba was too broken up about the hit and would be more than happy to give the BC player a beating behind the arena after the game if he did.

haha so he can dish out hits like that, but can't take them...too funny.

you're not gonna get a call by chasing down the ref after a play. even miserable jack was yelling at him to get on the bench and shut up. gryba looked like he wanted to cry.

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

Said Terriers senior defenseman Eric Gryba: “Like coach said, we played pretty hard to the end. If Nick (Bonino) gets the puck up there (and over BC goalie John Muse) at the end we win the hockey game. That’s the beauty of hockey, I guess.”

Was Bonino going for two?

File that under 'What goes around comes around'

Oh, irony! :D

that said, since hpgunner is blaming the refs

more irony! Actually not you, but other members of your contingent.

Congrats to BC.

Good news, BU is a much better team than the first half. Bad news, BU may have dug too deep a hole to overcome. The only way may be the hard way (HE tourney.)

If, IF, BU & BC meet again the loss might be a good thing. Don't want a repeat of 2006, where BU steamrolled BC in the regular season and everybody knew BC was due for a win.

I think the first half of your post should listen to the second half of your post.

You're not going to get a call by chasing down the ref and yelling at him, yet right after that, as you expected, BU was given a powerplay?

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

the penalty called after jack's nutty was legit. dumb play by cross; textbook interference. that said, since hpgunner is blaming the refs - abuse of officials, and interfering with their performance of duty, is a bench minor that went uncalled.

Gibbons' hit wasn't contact to the head, but it was, without a doubt, a rough. Gibbons clearly left his feet to hit Gryba which is a textbook case of roughing. This really isn't even arguable. I wish I had a clip to show that Gibbons got airborne to launch himself at Gryba.

And we're now complaining about complaining to the refs? Why not trot out every little rule that's prohibited in the rulebook? Shattenkirk never has his mouthguard completely in his mouth! There was contact in front of the net!

What's really frustrating about that is that the refs, the scorekeepers, and the entire Hockey East board of directors are all in our pockets. The fix is in, every year, every game. I don't know how they missed that one. Heads are gonna roll, that's for sure.

I specifically meant the play he was crying about. Let your coach talk to the refs.

Well of course he wasn't about to get a retroactive penalty, it's about getting the next call. Not to mention that the "A" on his jersey means he can talk to the ref.

um unless your captain was injured, the A's cant talk to the referees. and no player is permitted to dispute the judgement of the refs.

I think Jack called the banks this morning to "stop payment" on the checks.

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

The point is, Gryba went after the ref like the goon that he is. There's a way to lobby for a call and that wasn't it. It's still hilarious he can dish it out, but can't take one hit.

Hmm so that is the rule, although you do frequently see A's talking to the ref, must be the only rule in the rule book not followed to the letter:p. And no player is permitted to "dispute the judgement of the official" but they can still discuss the call.

The point is, you know nothing about hockey. That hit was clearly a roughing penalty. The kid left his feet and he hit up high. Gryba was upset because that wasn't the first time BC was getting away with murder. When the entire lower bowl of the Garden sees a replay and yells at the refs for being dimwits, you know they made the wrong call.

Gryba can take hits. Did you hear about Friday at Lowell when Gryba was targeted so thoroughly that he ended up with stitches in his chin. No complaining from him about that one. BC played very dirty last night. Their dives and acting skills were excellent. That said, BC was and is still the better team, but if you're going to argue that the officiating was even mediocre last night, you'd best keep your mouth shut.

LOL

First of all, Gibbons would need to do a lot more than leave his feet in order to hit Gryba up high. He'd need a stepladder, and Gryba would need to be wearing sneakers. Second, no, he didn't leave his feet. Find me the replay, maybe I'm wrong, but it sure looked like he was planted to me. Third, oh noes, BU fans thought there should be a penalty? Clearly, it should have been a penalty

But mostly, LOL at the idea that BC played "dirty" when BU boasts Eric "Caveman" Gryba and "Oscar" Saponari.

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

the game is being replayed at 1:30 on nesn.

i'm sure every fanboy will watch intently, with notebook in hand, recording the time, victim, and rulebook # of every atrocity committed by BC last night. of course, they will also change the rulebook and invent cockamamie explanations to explain away the calls against bu that were erroneous.

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

There's a way to lobby for a call and that wasn't it.

There's two ways: successfully and unsuccessfully. Based on the result his way seemed to be the latter, but in the end all it did was help make the score closer, not change the result, so moving on...
