The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

Warsofsky's stick first makes contact at his upper chest, and in the process of falling backwards, the stick moves up his chest and toward his chin. At no point does Warsofsky take his hand off his stick to punch or hit MacLeod, it only falls off after making contact.

This is what's known as the Magic Stick Theory. Personally, I think a second shot from the grassy knoll explains the way in which MacLeod fell.

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

I can't believe there is post after post about this stupid Warsofsky play and people are watching this in super-slow motion.

This isn't all that uncommon in a situation like this.

Warsofsky tries to keep it in. He doesn't. He shot it in on net. On a relatively close play like that, I'll give a guy the benefit of the doubt and most referees would too as long as it is not blatantly WAY after the whistle. This was close enough. However, you know an NU player will go over there and give him a whack and the refs will allow something that isn't malicious and let the game police itself a bit. In this situation, no one gets a penalty - *** for tat. At the least, he's going to get an earful from an NU player.

From Warsofsky's perspective, he knows something is coming from an NU player. Not a fun position to be in, you know you're going to get attacked in all likelihood. So he stupidly decides to take a pre-emptive strike. And a nasty one at that. Whether the stick hit Macleod's face, whether he punched him, etc etc etc that people are watching in slow motion... who freakin cares. It's a 2-min penalty on that either way. Roughing, contact to the head, high sticking, hitting after the whistle, crosschecking. Just pick one, who freakin cares.

From Macleod's perspective, let's first note we have no idea if he's going over there to tell Warsofsky his mother is ugly or to give him a small retaliation to appease Rawlings (just as Warsofsky isn't sure... although contact is highly likely and Warsofsky does know that). You can be sure he wasn't expecting to get drilled in the face (or shoulder to be more technical for some of you freaks that have watched this 35 times in slow motion) by Warsofsky. You simply can't say he took a dive. When you get drilled like that and you're not expecting it at all, it's just a natural reaction. He wasn't prepared for it in his stance so his balance is obviously going to be lost quickly when he gets hit like that. He was probably going to bump into Warsofsky and give him a shot or skate past him. Neither situation puts you in a great position to absorb that type of quick, hard shot up high if you're not expecting it.

That's how I saw it, from a neutral perspective.

edit - the word t-i-t is censored. HA!

I think Nick hit the nail on the head.

Obviously given the situation, it wasn't a good time for that penalty. Terrible time and place, in fact: Mid third period clinging to a one goal lead, offensive zone on a five minute power play. But as a BU fan I like that nastiness from little Warsofsky. No cheap stick work there, just an old fashioned, unnecessary, pretty much unprovoked, preemptive cross check to the face. Love it. And yes, if the roles were reversed I'd be po'd and offended just like everyone else.:D

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

And that ^ was surprisingly good analysis.

It was. I will say, I don't think and didn't say MacLeod took a dive, I thought there was some embellishment. Maybe I'm right, maybe I'm wrong, but based on how MacLeod approached Warsofsky, had his left arm up in anticipation of bumping into him, for him to flail his arms as he goes down doesn't make much sense, Minor or a double because of the mostly unprovoked nature of the hit. Not worthy of major and ejection.

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

Defkit, in all honesty.. the BU player who was hit from behind from Alex Tuckerman (NU), did a bit of selling himself.. That could (should) have been a 2 min call. I understand ref discretion.. but in my opinion, if you gave that a 5...

well, anyhow, the selling was obvious on both ends :)

I agree 100%. Again, not complaining about the call, or the reffing. In fact, I would argue that well over 50% of the HFB calls in the NCAA are significantly embellished. It is so effective, because it is easy to thrust yourself against the boards, flail your arms and drop like a rock to the ice. It is such a natural reaction for the ref to think that the player was just crushed, but then when you see the replay, you realize that a) they are on their skate toes to make it easier to "fall" and b) they are often spinning just to draw the call (Parker commented about this in the post-game).

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

so we have one fanboy? sure, every group had a bad apple or two.

but to what you were trying to say, I whole heartedly agree, there was no enthusiasm from anywhere in the BU sections. if only your own fans agreed with you..

who is house is this?

In all honesty, and I mean this, that was a typo, but you can think what you want. I meant more that your fans were not loud, I wasn't referring to their classiness.

Meh, on to games that matter.

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

the fanboy's total lack of enthusiasm for most of the game was predictable.

In all honesty, and I mean this, that was a typo, but you can think what you want. I meant more that your fans were not loud, I wasn't referring to their classiness.

So in the same conversation where you use the insult "fanboy" you then pull out the stereotypical fanboy claim that someone else's fans aren't as loud as you?

I love this board:D

Meh, on to games that matter. Like that super exciting NU Invitational! Every 2nd Monday in February we play at 5p at the huge TD Bank Garden. It's so quiet and empty it's like playing in the Grand Canyon. Every so often we get beat by either BU or BC, but this year - as we do almost 2 out of 3 years it seems - we get those pansy boys from Harvard. This year we will not only crush them on the ice, but we'll drown their fans with cheers like "WE HAVE JOBS!!" and "THAT'S ALRIGHT, THAT'S OK. YOU'RE GONNA WORK FOR US ONE DAY!!" I don't think some of them realize that we get to work and get paid for one of our five years here. I also don't think they realize that we have a lot of applicants who get rejected by our admissions board. We are a really, really good school! Oh well, first we have to travel to Andover to play Merrimack. They have a nice rink like ours. Real old school.;)

:p

(no offense. don't know where this came from - i just started typing : eek :)

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

Can the mods please pin a "NU vs. BU - who is student section is house is this louder?' thread to the top of the board? Please and thank you.

Probably could if they could figure out what the hell it is you're trying to say. ;) :D

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

I know both teams have huge games coming up before Monday, so I understand the absense of enthusiasm.

Having said that, BU still sucks. (At life, and goaltending, and it's all their fault, eh, etc. etc.)

..hey don't talk that way.. Palin isn't here until April..
:)

No clothes, no brains, I sense a trend. I still find it hilarious that she went to a Flyers game to drop the puck. Of all places for her not to go, a liberal-leaning city that will boo a garbage can.
