Tennis anyone?

Re: Tennis anyone?

What did Federer do to Roddick?

After their epic match in the 2009 final (Roddick was broken one time and lost 16-14 in the 5th) Roger made Roddick wait in his chair while he changed into his Nike tracksuit with a golden embroidered "15" to celebrate his 15th Grand Slam, then paraded around Centre Court before the trophy ceremony. Then he told the media he knew exactly how Andy felt because he had lost to Nadal the year before. The difference is that Roger had already won a fistful of Wimbledons and this was as close as Andy had gotten (and likely will). He wasn't exactly graceful in victory. I still point out that Roddick didn't break down into tears and whine like Roger had...

Speaking of, after a first set with no breaks, Roddick now leads Kunitsyn two sets to love.

Re: Tennis anyone?

OK I really don't remember that or it being a big deal. I think it's possible Federer simply got lost in the moment. I've always thought he had a reputation of being as graceful as they come in victory. What has he whined about?

Re: Tennis anyone?

Okay, that's one that even I have never seen before. They had to stop play on one of the main courts because there was a dead spot on the court. Apparently it was a pretty quick fix by just drilling two small holes in the court to release the air pocket.

I had never seen that either. Weird.

So with Venus's retirement, the U.S. is left with Roddick and Isner. The Isner-Cilic matchup should be a good one.

This was awesome!

Re: Tennis anyone?

American Mitchell Krueger just knocked off the #5 seed in the junior tournament. There's only three Americans in the draw, and none seeded, but maybe the US can salvage something out of this tournament.

Thomas Berdych is flying through the draw. He's absolutely dismantling Fernando Verdasco right now. This could be Berdych's big shot at making a name for himself.

Re: Tennis anyone?

Wow, just watched last night/this morning's tennis, and Wawrinka completely slaughtered Andy Roddick. The straight-set score doesn't even begin to tell the story

Re: Tennis anyone?

Roddick put up an honest effort, but Wawrinka was just playing with too much confidence. It was like trying to slow down a freight train. Wawrinka was so much stronger from the baseline that there was really nothing Roddick could do. Wawrinka may be the first player I've ever seen that can actually use a one-handed backhand as a legitimate weapon.

Federer apparently had a pretty sloppy second set against Robredo, but looked great in the last two. If he can continue to step into the court and hit that backhand down the line like he was doing yesterday, I think he's got a very good shot at winning the tournament.

Re: Tennis anyone?

Federer is gone too, bounced by Djokovic in straight sets.

And on the women's side, Wozniacki was upset by Li Na.

That was disappointing. Woz had match point in the 2nd set and couldn't seal the deal. She was broken twice when serving for the match. Then she goes the entire third set and hits 0 winners.

She's a wonderful girl and has a wicked sense of humor (the whole "kangaroo story" she fed the media was awesome) but just can't win the big matches at Grand Slams yet.

The path is wide open for Kim Clijsters to win.

Re: Tennis anyone?

I'm really surprised Murray won last night. I watched the first set where he got a break but failed to consolidate it and ended up dropping the set, and then got a break early in the second and broken the next game again. I went to bed thinking that was going to be pretty tough to come back from, but apparently he pulled it out.

I've heard a lot of people saying this is "Murray's big chance at a major" since he didn't have to play Federer or Nadal, but I think he's still a huge underdog in the final because Djokovic has played absolutely flawlessly in his last two matches. Murray will definitely get other chances though. Federer may have a couple more years, but I can't see Nadal staying that dominant for much longer.
