Team USA--WJC

Re: Team USA--WJC

Hockey's Future has the post game interviews for Rocco Grimaldi.

http://www.hockeysfuture.com/articl...rld-junior-championship-rocco-grimaldi-usa-2/

Good interview. Turns out that the game winning goal was a shot towards Rocco's head, where he put his hand up to block the shot and it went in.

Also in the still photo check out his stick where it says:

Praise the Lord!,this young man has a bright future-Go USA!

Here the link from FCA and his interview

The same way they always have. Give them a salt lick to keep them occupied, climb a step stool, and go at it.

I hate you, but all will be forgiven if you come and clean the coffee off of my monitor! ;) :D

Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun has a pretty good analysis of the parity in the junior game

Canada set the bar at the World Junior Hockey Championship many years ago and the rest and best of the hockey world has responded overwhelmingly. It can no longer be assumed Team Canada will win the world junior crown, or as this year demonstrated, even wind up with a medal. The talent in the top countries is that extreme, that equal. And the folks who blame Canadian hockey for the growth in American hockey are missing the point. Yes, the Canadian junior leagues are developing some of America’s best hockey players. But understand this: Before the players get to junior or college age, the U.S. Under 18s and Under 17s, have been outplaying Canadian players in recent years. The kids who have gone through the national development camps have benefited greatly, as has the game. We don’t want junior hockey to be like women’s hockey, where the same teams win every tournament, every time. Competition makes sport better. We need to embrace the competition, frankly, as the Americans have, and now take it to the next level.

So NHL.com has had video summaries of each game, showing all the goals and key saves. Yet all I see for the Gold medal game is a couple people talking, the team hoisting the cup, and highlights of Gibson saves. Is there a video somewhere that also shows the goals?

Re: Team USA--WJC

Just thinking out loud here but is it possible the Canadians are stuck with an outmoded style of play. The US and Sweden seemed to be much more aggressive in using the defense to push forward and in attacking on the PK. I wonder if the Canadians are being passed by as a result of history. Maybe they are too much rooted in an NHL size rink and the resulting style.

2013 WJHC Pools

A: US, CAN, CZE, SVK, GER
B: SWE, RUS, SUI, FIN, NOR

Figure GER and NOR to fight it out for relegation.
Pool B is going to be a sell out for every game. Wonder where they will stick Pool A (TSN and NHLN, too)??

Are the pool selections random?

Who from this year's USA team will be eligible for next year's World Juniors?

Four of five teams from each group make it to the quarterfinals now? Why even bother with a round-robin stage? What is this, the ECAC playoffs?

The groups do look fun though. North American rivalry and Czechoslovakian rivalry in Pool A, the Nordic countries plus Russia in Group B.

Re: Team USA--WJC

That will get you kicked out of the Rocco fan club.

Rocco is a Cali kid, he probably has never seen a deer lick in his life. But he has seen gold, 'cause its hanging on his neck(thank the dear Lord of course). I hope that everyone is praying for our dear friend Skjie, he seamed to not be needed by the gophers or the U.S. team.

I don't think Brady needs your prayers, thankyouverymuch. :p He is doing fine - first round draft pick, back to playing on the #1 ranked team in the nation, has his own previous gold from the 2012 U18 Worlds, as well as a Silver from the 2011 U17s, still an 18 yo freshman. He'll just keep getting better, and he'll always have NHL size. ;)

Its great to win the Gold Medal and its fun to to watch the Canadian agonize over the state of the game up North. But at the end of the day we probably need to keep things in perspective.

Canada still produces more hockey players, has far more depth and has kept the game far more affordable for young players.

Clearly the USNDP works. It is producing elite players that are performing on the international stage. But if its working so well, perhaps its time to expand the concept. Setting up regional development programs or youth programs that expands the reach of the game nationally. In other words, "Take the show on the road."

No doubt the USA is seeing the fruits of the game growing in non-traditional markets. Lets hope the momentum continues.

Re: Team USA--WJC

Expectations will be high next year but I don't see this team doing nearly as well next year. Hopefully they surprise but I think any Medal would be a great accomplishment next year in Malmo.
