Sweet Release: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread Part I

Re: Sweet Release: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread Part I

Yeah, and the fact that this doesn't seem to worry them at all leads me to believe it is more of a money issue.

****it, that is what I meant to say. I knew it was only 3 bands.
You're forgetting about Still Stayin' Alive, they'll be there.

Re: Sweet Release: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread Part I

More like if Tech wants him to take them serious they should get a new coach. Seriously. With State, and the Peterborough Petes already expressing interest prior to his sophomore year, I highly doubt he's too concerned about Tech taking him seriously.

Does this university conduct exit interviews with the players? When you can't get his former players to vouch for him, how in the **** are you going to convince future players to come? Who do they think they are fooling with this act? It's absurdity! Five out of seven seasons of 8 wins or less, the last two a combined total of 11 wins! If there isn't a change, the current administration obviously completely don't give a **** about MTU Hockey. And if they don't care the slim support is going to get a lot slimmer. Not making a drastic change at this point will put the program lower than the depths that Watters brought it to.

His two years are less than what some of these coaches make a year. This program can't afford not to buy him out in my opinion. I sure hope they are looking at all possible options including requesting permission to use the hockey fund to pay him off.

Does this quote sound familiar from recently fired Ohio State Coach John Markell:

“I love the character of the team,” Markell said. “I liked the way we bounced back. We were resilient. I really liked our second half. I thought we really matured as a team and were finally reaping the benefits of having a mature goaltender, solid goaltending, scoring goals. We were good on specialty teams. We were competing very, very hard. We always reacted the right way.”

Russell will not go anywhere this summer, whether people want him gone or not. Wasting hockey fund money to buyout the rest of his contract makes little sense. Please, give us all a break and stop wasting our time with rants that will not help in your quest to have JR sh*tcanned because he told your relative/best friend Daavesus that he wasn't good enough to play for Tech.

It would be the most well spent hockey fund money that's been raised. The object of the hockey fund is to raise money to improve the program and it would be by far the most well spent money in recent years. If not let me know how much the other spending in recent years has improved the program; 11 wins in 2 years- did you miss that?

With huge freshman classes.

32 wins in the two years prior - did you miss that? And no, it was not with a majority of Sertich's recruits.

Michigan Tech WILL get 10-15 wins next year. To hell with everything I've said in the last week, I want every Tech poster to hold me to that prediction. If Russell gets less than 10 wins, I will definitely agree that it's time to pull the plug. You have my word.

Incidentally, how's Daavesus doing? Still tearing up the ECHL, I see.

Re: Sweet Release: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread Part I

Anyone want to start a petition that the MTU Pep Band should be the official band of the 2010 Frozen Four? It's going to need some good ole fashioned rowdiness to compete with the Tigers' opening weekend crowds.
Start the group and I'll sign up.

UPDATE: Mikael Lickteig says he doesn't actually hate the Huskies Pep Band, he just joined his friend's group.

We say he needs better friends. :p

I got to pick up at least one NCAA Trophy during my college career...

Its only a regional Trophy, the NC ones are much nicer. ;) :D

NCAA Division II Women's Elite Eight
Gannon (36-0) vs. Tusculum (22-9)
Emporia State (24-5) vs. Michigan Tech (30-2)

Arkansas Tech (29-2) vs. Franklin Pierce (30-1)
Fort Lewis (31-3) vs. Seattle Pacific (24-3)

Not exactly sure on what the brackets are, other than from what I've heard, there are those that are putting some money on Tech, probably not as much as Gannon. And well, nobody really gets to see enough D2 women's bball all year to really be able to perdict the Elite Eight, so its just a crapshoot.

Since the Pep isn't going to be at the Final Five, they should send them there to St. Joseph, Missouri. Emporia is the closest team to St. Joseph, and they would be a Home Court Advantage there in Missery.

Well, yes, that's the plan. TSBFitW went to Texas last year for WBB, and has been to Elite Eights before that (Boston perhaps). I've been at an NCAA regional game in Houghton before, as well. It's easily the most competitive of all our sporting teams.

If you guys want some local Intell on the place, like the best places to get boose and whatnot, I'm sure I can find somebody for you guys to check in with.

Who the fck is Emporia State? Also, since when does Gannon have a competent program in ANY sport? ;)

Gannon has always been pretty good in basketball, both men's and women's. Football, eh, not so much.

Emporia State is known as the Hornets, so I suggest you stop into the local Menards there in St. Joe and get a big can of Raid perhaps. ;)

But if you really want to know more about Emporia State, I would suggest going here.....

Same MB as what D2Football is, for those of you with a screen name there. Just a different section.

Looking at Gannon's schedule, I don't think they've really played that many teams of note.

Re: Sweet Release: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread Part I

So, the Foopers floor hockey team (me, PB, Flashy, Yager, Boosh, rmk, and various others) played a crazy game yesterday. Started out up 1-0, down 5-1 with 5 to go (sound familiar?), but then we did what Tech couldn't do, came back and won 6-5. The real kicker? 4 of the 5 PK goals were scored by BUNGERRRRRRR!!!!

Re: Sweet Release: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread Part I

We know. We have 3. Of the D1 version, which are 10x better than D2 trophies.

And the last time they were taken out of the throphy case to be dusted would be????

The NCAA trophy's from back then aren't really much to look at compaired to what they hand out today.

Off the top of my head here...

4 football national championships
1 women's basketball NC
1 women's volleyball NC
1 women's soccer NC

And about 6 straight Director Cup trophy's for the best overall athletic department in Division Two.

Re: Sweet Release: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread Part I

No. Not by any measure. My senior year of HS, our hockey team had a season like you guys just had, but we still lit up Cadillac like a freaking Christmas tree.
But they have a newish coach, and had the best year/team in their history. (Historically bad, yes; but good this year)
Maybe Crawford could come along with him. He's always had a winning program up there and they skate hard for him.:D
:D Great idea! Only trouble is he's 97 years old.

Its in my signature line...I hate to say it but I agree with the bold part...I might even say it has to be closer to 2007-2008 season for him to keep his job.

This is setting up very similar to the 1999-2000 -> 2000-2001 seasons.

Russell managed one more win and one more tie in 2 less games than Watters did in 99-2000. If Russell doesn't get off to a good start, he is probably gone before GLI.
