Suny cortland season thread 1.

Re: Suny cortland season thread 1.

While I do agree that whenever anyone plays Plattsurgh, they do bring their "A game", it also appears that when Oswego plays teams they consider a push-over, they leave their "A game" in the locker room ;)

Dead on with that one!!

Yet somehow the Lakers are 58-3-4 against teams not named Plattsburgh in conference play over the last 5 years. Not bad for never bringing their "A" game.

It's funny how Cortland beats Platty in Platty and the talk is Cortland's goalie was hot, and how well the Cardinals played in losing. After all, the Cardinals heavily outshot the Dragons. Then when Oswego goes on the road, against the same hot goaltender, outshoots the Dragons badly, and wins the game, talk is the Lakers overlooked their opponent and did not bring their best.

EXCEPT, the comment on leaving their A-game in the locker room was made on: 12-19-2010 02:42 PM - long before they played "against the same hot goaltender" in Cortland. ;)

But most importantly, Oswego :o wishes they could have done as well against Hobart as Cortland did.

Ok Norm, I'm a little late on catching up with your Oswego digs (like the one above). I wouldnt even had noticed it had madison not perpetuated the myth the Lakers dont bring their "A" game against so-called pushovers. In that vein, here is the dig right back at you. Most importantly, Plattsburgh wishes they could have done as well against Cortland as Hobart did ;)

No myth about it GreatLaker, they struggle against teams they should runover for the simple reason they do not take those opponents seriously. Yes, they battle back and win those games (Morrisville last year and Cortland so far) but they need to come out and try to bury those teams much as they did to Pottsdam. It always appears to be defensive breakdowns that hurt the Lakers and not a potent offense. I believe this years Lakers will go far because of the close games (this discussion should be in the Lake thread not the Cortland thread).

Re: Suny cortland season thread 1.

Cortland is evidently making a name for themselves in something other than football. Not only are they getting xfers, but their goalie played JRs in Manitoba. A team on the rise!

now if they could follow in RPI's (my D 1 team) footsteps, they'd be in good shape. I cant really follow Cortland too much living near Albany, but losing gets old fast haha

Re: Suny cortland season thread 1.

I attended the game last night (Elmira v Cortland) and was very surprised at the advances
Cortland has made since we last played them They should be a force in the SUNYAC in the future. Great turnaround guys.

Re: Suny cortland season thread 1.

Nice mix of recruits this year too, a couple Canadians and a transfer from SNU (no less!!). Should be an interesting season, I say they make the playoffs this season with a deeper bench and an upgraded defense.

Re: Suny cortland season thread 1.

Cortland plays a sort of odd schedule this year
they open the season with four home games, hit the road for 3,home for a series with Neumann before going on the road for 11 straight games, finishing the year with four more at home. It's going to make the path just that much harder for the red dragons having to play 11 consecutive games on the road. Does anyone else find this odd?

Not so odd when you consider they don't host their own tournament, such as Plattsburgh's Cardinal Classic, Oswego's Pathfinder Bank/Oswego Classic or Norwich's Northfield Savings Bank Holiday Tournament, etc an effective way to help ensure that you don't face those LONG 11 consecutive road games.

Thats a good point, meaning my top College hockey allegiance falls in the D1 ranks this seems a little odd to me as my D1 teams longest road trip maxes out at 6 games including 1 neutral site game and a tourney. I just hope this stretch doesnt prove as a setback for a team that is ever so slowly showing signs of improvement! Thanks for the reply,Norm, your fairly regular replies help keep this thread alive!

Re: Suny cortland season thread 1.

Reading this thread since it's now at the top. I'm getting a "poor Cortland, their hockey team isn't as good as their football team" vibe and I'm not buying it. Cortland is a school other SUNYAC teams circle on their schedules in LAX, baseball and softball along with football. There are schools who don't even have one sport they're good at and Cortland has at least four. By all means improve in hockey too, it makes the conference more exciting, but spare me the "poor us" posts.

Scott,
Being the only Cortland fan on these boards, its not easy keeping the information interesting when you live 150 miles away and the team won a total of 6 games last season. The comparison to the football team began in an attempt to keep conversation going and it was a universal topic many posters knew a little about because they are a well structured program. No intended "poor us" from me,The football team is more of a goal for the hockey team in my eyes as they slowly continue to improve. Cortland has a solid athletic resume, the comments you mention on this board in my eyes are along the lines of when,if ever is the hockey team going to join those competitive sports, not a "woe is me" attitude

Re: Suny cortland season thread 1.

Until Cortland offers foreign FA....they will continue to be a mid to bottom tier SUNYAC school in hockey, period. I don't have them projected to make the playoffs......Potsdam will be improved and if Morrisville can continue thier trend I dont see anyone Cortland can pass for the last spot.

As the last I've seen from Cortland was a weekend in which they executed a last inning rally in softball to extend their winning streak over Plattsburgh to 9 games followed by a 15-4 drubbing in LAX on our own senior day the next afternoon, I'm not counting Cortland out until the Cards drop two Ls on them, something they couldn't do last season.
