Sun Devil Hockey

ASU looked pretty great too, keeping up with a high power team. despite the result i'd be very excited for the season if i were you guys.

Sean McGurn looked awesome and murdered in the faceoff dot. not always you see someone transfer and get a letter immediately. he was the captain of the always-dangerous London Knights his last year of juniors when they went to the finals, ultimately losing after their starting goalie was injured. he joined powerhouse UNB when they went on their undefeated season for a championship, this past year they lost a few games but still won their division championship. basically all this dude does is go on deep runs with powerhouse teams.

but please do fix that power play, way too much talent for it to be that lifeless.

The power plays were anemic......

The first invitational tournament of the year this weekend, the "Icebreaker Tournament". Being in Tempe where temperatures are barely below 100 F it should have been called the "Icemelter Tournament"?
Then the first (?) invitational tournament of 2026, the "Desert Hockey Classic" is in Tempe.
This got me wondering how many and which NCAA D1 hockey universities have sponsored 2 regular season tournaments in the same season. I did the web search but nothing came up. Does anyone have an answer?

Icebreaker, 3rd tournament title in as many years for ASU. Plus the US Hockey Hall of Fame win 4 years ago. Hopefully the trend continues against tough competition.
