Still Complaining About ESPN...

Re: Still Complaining About ESPN...

Some are doing more than complaining. Some are dropping it. More than 3 million subscribers lost in a year according to the WSJ. I downgraded my satellite package recently and now it includes only ESPN and ESPN2. I used to get everything they offered -- which seemed like about 10 channels. Now just two. I also do not watch anything on it but live sports and the occasional 30 for 30 (or other similar type) documentary offerings. No talking head shows, no highlight shows, nothing.

I dropped cable TV (never had satellite) a couple months ago now. The only time I expect to miss ESPN is during the hockey tournament. There's an ESPN app on my Apple TV box, but I've yet to open it. I might try it come football season, see if it'll give me their pre-game show. Probably not, though.

The ESPN app, like most, require a cable subscription to fully utilize. Now I would never advocate using a family member's cable subscription to bypass that lockout, but I've heard that happens from time to time...

Without a login to a cable co / satellite provider, only ESPN 3 content would be available to you.

And even then, ESPN3 is not available to everyone due to deals ESPN worked out with local cable co's (ESPN pretends "The Tres" is a legit cable channel when it's nothing but a glorified ESPN YouTube with occasional live content).

Re: Still Complaining About ESPN...

KO and Simmons went against the throne and that's what happens when you don't kiss the infected posterior of the NFL. (Plus KO also likes hockey better than hoops and that's a no-no.) People may dislike Olbermann's attitude or politics, but he was right more often than he was wrong on sports. The Worst Person made me chuckle and think.

Can we get a Kickstarter for a Last Week Tonight Version Sports Edition?

It would be morbidly funny if the NFL rights fees become an albatross around the necks of the payers.

Re: Still Complaining About ESPN...

No worries, he's just moving over to Fox.

I actually wonder if Fox's management will let him be intelligent instead of forcing him to go into Baylessian commentary like ESPN's management.

Edit:

Nope. GDit Fox...
According to TBL, Fox doesn’t have any concrete plans for Cowherd yet, but the loudmouth liked the idea of reuniting with president Jamie Horowitz, who worked with Cowherd on SportsNation and is best known as the godfather of ESPN’s “Embrace Debate” era.

I had hope for FS1. That they hired the "embrace debate" godfather makes me less hopeful.

Great. Now we'll have two sports networks infested with idiocy.

Re: Still Complaining About ESPN...

Reports are swirling that Jenner negotiated for the AA award in exchange for an interview.

Re: Still Complaining About ESPN...

I seriously enjoy how upset everyone is that ESPN gave someone a bullcrap award that doesn't matter.

I think it's more about it being named after Arthur Ashe. ESPN is basically peeing on his grave with this sham.

You're literally the first person I've seen across the entire interwebs who has mentioned Ashe. Every other opinion I've seen has been about the definition of courage, and sharing that picture of the fake runner up soldier.

Nobody gave two craps about the ESPY's prior to this year. They hadn't been shown live in a decade and have never been on ABC. Obviously ratings played a part in their choice for the award, but at the same time there didn't seem to be as big of an uproar when Sam was chosen over Stuart Scott last year.

All in all, what does it matter? It's an ESPY. And if Jenner's speech saved even one kid from committing suicide, or changed a few people's opinions, it was worth it. Everyone got recognized in the end anyway.

Re: Still Complaining About ESPN...

Silly question, but what's the IOC rule on TG athletes? Do they compete based on chromosomes or what they want to be identified as?

Think Eastern European "women" shotputters in the 60's.
