Re: Still Complaining About ESPN...

No, MySpace. AOL was organized by keyword. This is... Horrible. Every story is a tweet. Every headline is a Vine.

It's truly.... Awful.

You think I clicked on any of that crap? I was afraid. I only clicked on "NFL -> home" to see the headlines. That was MORE than enough.

Re: Still Complaining About ESPN...

Keeping in mind, I've just seen this on a desktop browser:

The appearance isn't so bad, to me. A lot of places are taking more of a "streamlined for phone/tablet" approach to website design that I think is making them more efficient to navigate. The extra emphasis on titles and headlines is a little frustrating, but that seems to be the nature of the beast.

Only on laptop, too, and it's HORRID. Even the old design, never a problem on my Kindle (considered mobile by websites).

Re: Still Complaining About ESPN...

When I checked last night it was still on the old format. Now it's switched. Awful. Completely and utterly awful.

Re: Still Complaining About ESPN...

Yeah, when I saw it this morning on the laptop I almost went blind. This low contrast crap is going to blind an entire generation of people. It's the absolute worst design trend I've ever seen.

Re: Still Complaining About ESPN...

I stopped checking ESPN.com a while ago. What's worth looking for there?

Injury reports for NFL (although I check a couple different sites, just to make sure stuff is accurate). Basic sports headlines. Maybe a score or two.

Re: Still Complaining About ESPN...

Just went to the new site
Cricket World Cup Stories: 2
NHL Stories: 1
Euro Hockey Stories: 1
NCAA Hockey Stories: 1

Puts it in perspective where hockey sits in relation to cricket. BTW, the Indian Premier League (E$PN has the rights) starts April 8. I really want to see if the coverage bleeds over to the main page.

Re: Still Complaining About ESPN...

Even if the format changed, they still have that obnoxious banner add that envelopes the entire screen. What idiot designer thought it'd be a good idea to keep that?

Re: Still Complaining About ESPN...

With all the talk about their site I finally went to it while on my work computer. I can tell it's using the latest and greatest gadgets for web development because my browser can't display about 70% of the content.

Re: Still Complaining About ESPN...

It's still way too busy, but I like the cleaner tone.

"Less is more" should be engraved on every designer's inner eye lids. People are still designing according to terrible habits from TV and newspaper advertising. If somebody has navigated to your site, you don't have to attract them, you have to hold them. More real content, less garbage. It's not that complicated.
