Re: Still Complaining About ESPN...

I blame Clarkson.ESPN continues to lose subscribers at an alarming rate.
While there may be comfort in the devil you know, I doubt ESPN ceding some of it's dominance to other entities would be such a bad thing. As I posted recently every bad change in sports (televised or by any other measure) in the last generation I believe has its genesis in ESPN. In addition to yelling at the kids to get the fark off my lawn, I am tired of the sound on my TV being overloaded by the blast of the foghorn that is now de rigueur in every hockey rink in the universe. Yes I blame ESPN for that too.

The whistle, in this case. I'll plead the 5th on that **** bell for now.The Bell or the train whistle? The former, you can pound sand. The latter, you have a beef.
As has been mentioned before, ESPN is currently the MTV of sports. They got away from what made them good back in the day. Just show sports and highlights. Stop with the TMZ Talk Shows/etc.
Which is insane. Don't people have jobs?

Such a shame. I distinctly remember an ESPN retrospective show where some of the anchors were talking about the early days of the network. They were broadcasting live coverage of the America's Cup, because they couldn't afford to buy the rights to any more mainstream sports. Due to some sort of delays, the race was going to run past its allotted time, and they cut away to SportsCenter anyway, figuring that people wouldn't care. Instead, they were deluged with calls demanding that they show the end of the race. As one of the anchors put it (paraphrasing from memory), "here you had these boats going 12 miles per hour, max, but people were enthralled just because it was LIVE. We really learned the power of broadcasting live sports, because you just don't know what's going to happen."It doesn't help that they heavily bias anything they have a direct contract with- SEC, NBA, NFL, etc. Hard to watch Sports Center now that it's the NBA final. It's well over half about just two teams. And we have other things going on, right now.
We all know about the Cup final. But this weekend was an Indycar race that was on ABC. I did not see a single highlight of Saturday's race this morning, and I don't expect to see anything about today. They are currently knee deep showing the Softball World Series, and next week will be the baseball side of things- barely anything. We are more interested in who sweated the most in some practice that some BB team had instead of the games they actually show on ESPN.
And it gets to the point where the bias starts influencing the coverage. It's not until the mainstream media shows something really bad until the Mouse decides that ESPN needs to be upset, too.
Or we see some rather obvious bias towards the SEC and getting their coverage. Must have been a relief this past football season, the way it ended.
Anyway, as I've mentioned before- I now watch English Premiere League instead of SC on weekend mornings.
The infamous lacrosse game that overlapped the UND hockey game a few years back. We overloaded the phone lines. And then just about crashed justintv bootleg site. He thought he was being attacked by bots. Nope, just hockey fans. He was amazed.Such a shame. They need to re-learn that lesson!
