St. Norbert 2013-14 - a new mountain to climb on the way back to the top

Re: St. Norbert 2013-14 - a new mountain to climb on the way back to the top

Are the Western Canadian Junior leagues still playing this late in the season? I know it will never happen but I am wonder if any eastern D3 teams would hire part time scouts to check the teams in the SJHL, AJHL, and BCHL. At the very least I think they could zero in of the top talents not going to D1. But guys in the know claim that most of the top D3 teams are going after the same players with $$$ being the deciding factor in most cases. But it obvious that Coach Couglin puts the time and effort in to build a great program. One of the things I have noticed about Western teams that they only seem to have 4-5 scorer types with the rest being big, strong, complementary players.
BCHL playoffs still in progress...see attached..

Re: St. Norbert 2013-14 - a new mountain to climb on the way back to the top

I'm sure SNC isn't breaking any NCAA recruiting rules. I don't think anyone believes that they are. What this whole thing is about is the ability of SNC to make and education/hockey career less expensive for top flight D3 recruits. Nothing more. As long as they follow the guidelines set forth by the NCAA, they're not doing anything wrong.

The rest of us only wish the pendulum swings back our way a bit. Until then, there's not much of a doubt where the blue-chippers are headed. SNC and a few others, have made a significant commitment to their hockey programs. That starts at the very top of the institution. THey should be applauded for that. SNC has become the model program in D3.

My son pursued SNC, not the other way around. No promises were made. I think a lot of quality players will seek out programs where they have a chance at success and possible advancement. The financial part of it works itself out in the end.

SNC was introduced at the Gamblers game tonight. Kujava and McCadden played for the Gamblers.

We are certainly glad your son made that call!!

Re: St. Norbert 2013-14 - a new mountain to climb on the way back to the top

The on campus celebration of SNC's 4th National Championship has been moved indoors to the Schuldes Sports Center due to the return of winter weather here in De Pere, starting @ 3:00 tomorrow...

Pete, any beta on the team end of season banquet, and/or guesses as to who will be next season's captains?

Gotta think Jake has a decent chance of wearing an A on his jersey next season (has SNC ever had a goaltender in it's group of captains?) Fiala for sure (if he is returning.) Cullen Bradshaw? Cooper?

I think Jake has a good chance of wearing an A for next season...other possibilities are Hill and Baptista. Normally hear the announcement on the captains at the banquet, which is coming up on April 26.
On a side note, rumour has it that two D-men have committed for next season..one from the BCHL and the other from the USHL...no confirmed names yet..

Love it. Yes, I think SNC is going to have to come hard this off-season with the D recruits.

Can't believe I forgot to mention Baptista in the mix...

SNC recruits from the NAHL, USHL & Western Canadian junior leagues.

The East recruits from the EHL, USPHL, and Eastern Canadian junior leagues.

And we wonder why the trophy stays in the West??

Re: St. Norbert 2013-14 - a new mountain to climb on the way back to the top

pretty cool, note that UW will have a few games under their belts so that will put SNC at a little disadvantage.

that's not the only thing putting SNC at a disadvantage :D

however, two of UW's games are in GB, so guessing SNC will scout that in person

Re: St. Norbert 2013-14 - a new mountain to climb on the way back to the top

this was in the schedule thread but should go here too: SNC playing at UW

Also, the UW red/white game will be at Cornerstone Oct. 4

For some reason I am under the impression that the NCAA didn't allow Norwich to continue playing Dartmouth before 11-1 as they did in the past. Maybe the Norwich game was an exhibition and not a scrimmage and that made a difference. A lot of D3 fans and maybe some Dartmouth fans looked forward to the D1/D3 competition. The game also brought a good crowd to Thompson Arena in Hanover.

I am looking forward to watching the scrimmage if the colleges stream it.
