Than unless Boston has changed its tune, I doubt the FF returns in this round.

i hope they have cuz they put ZERO effort into 04..... my guess would be that boston gets one of the bids this time around tho, with pittsburgh and philly fighting for the other

If I had to give my best Guess it would be St. Louis getting one so the NCAA can have one out West like you said, With Pittsburgh beating out Philly and Boston with the new arena they have. To me Pittsburgh has to be the city to get it since they are buidling a new barn...

Pittsburgh and St. Louis are too similar. Smaller cities that you can spend 2 days in but generally don't have a desire to return to.

I can live with one or the other for the sake of promoting a local team (lets say Pittsburgh for RMU's sake since there's no local college team in St Louis). However, if both Boston and DC are in the mix then it needs to go by the "cities that people actually want to visit" rule and they should both win.

Oh, and forget about Philly. Once you have a gauntlet of bums hanging around the entrance to the hotel and strongly suggesting that you hand over money if you know what's good for you, you'll start to miss Detroit. Not to mention the place is boring as all hell.

Boston didn't comply with some of the NCAA requirements, such as removal of advertising and logos in the ice.

When the next set of sites were assigned, there were indications that the bid was haphazardly put together, as if Boston felt it was entitled to the FF.

I travel there 10 times a year and have never seen a bum around my hotels, let alone be asked for money. Philadelphia is loaded with cool things to do, just like all the big cities of the East Coast. Plenty of things to see, amazing history, entire colonial neighborhoods that go back 200 years or more, great museums (Art-PMA, Science-Franklin Inst, Arcaheology - UPenn, History(Contsitution center), easy transit, cool food markets (Reading Terminal and Italian, neat waterfront (cool old ships, aquarium), very walkable, good food, some funky bohemian places (South Street, northern Liberties) great sports and good bars/clubs in Old City neighborhood. There are some rough parts to be sure, but that's true of all big cities.

That's some of it, but mostly, they did not put much effort into hosting the event. Few volunteers, little signage and event feel, and a toxic relationship with the Bruins management group on the arena. In 2004, There was an NHL Playoff Game held on the Friday Night, too, which also ticked off the NCAA.

The NCAA hasn't even told the respective committee chairman if they are finalists. That said, I'd predict Pittsburgh in 2013 and St. Louis in 2014.

If STL gets another bid its going to owe a large amount of the credit for the successful bid for how large the rink is capacity wise.

$$$.

That's why I'm hoping the United Center gets it in Chicago soon. 22K? How is the NCAA able to resist? :rolleyes:

Well, there is that press release from the St. Louis Sports Commission...

Anyway - they have apparently named 4-5 finalists, but what are the chances there's another finalist out there (OKC or Omaha) that haven't said anything about it yet? Reason I wonder is that there are 4 eastern venues, and only 1 western. If that's not the case, it almost guarantees St. Louis as one of the two awarded...

it's just two... could be east/east this round.

Why does it matter if St. Louis is technically geographically west? For teams and their fans of all but two or three western schools, it's a flight either way since St. Louis isn't anywhere near any western school.

But isn't that the case for most western FF's? I mean, outside St. Paul and Detroit, Denver is a flight for nearly everyone; and so is Milwaukee and even Columbus (and so would Omaha, KC or OKC). That's the nature of "western" D-I hockey...

Milwaukee is a plenty reasonable drive for the majority of the WCHA and CCHA.

The thing is that St Louis isn't near anything of note in the college hockey world.

I'd like to see more Frozen Fours in Denver, Washington, DC, and Milwaukee. I think a Pittsburgh FF would be outstanding. Philly? Not so much.

Figures the NCAA would get ticked off over something no one in the Boston organizing committee could possibly control. What were they supposed to do, ask the Bruins to ask the NHL to delay the beginning of the playoffs by 4 or 5 days? It's not like nobody saw that coming. The week of the start of the Stanley Cup playoffs would have been known far enough in advance that everyone would have known there was the potential for a conflict if the Bruins got in and had home ice advantage. Since they and the Celtics are the two primary tenants (fortunately, the Celts sucked back then), guess what's going to happen? That is assuredly also why they didn't remove the logos. There's no way the Bruins are going to host Stanley Cup playoff games without their own logo at center ice.
Fortunately for NHL arenas with the FF since then, the NHL regular season now goes an extra week longer. So they can just schedule the home team to be out of town that week.

I found Milwaukee to be full of friendly mid-westerners and very dull.

I agree. Can't remember doing much aside from the hockey games and a Brewers game.

Denver and Washington on the other hand were amazing. I'd be fine with going back to those two cities ever few years.

I thought the city had tremendous bars, etc. We drove down to Chicago on the Friday and went to the Cubs game in the afternoon and made it back for the Brewers game in Milwaukee that night. I'd be happy to go back.
