St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

Re: St. Lawrence University Skating Saints - 2015-2016

SLU will be good with the players in place for next year if they buy what Morris is selling, recruiting will take a few bumps off the start you'd have to assume with a lot of Carvel guys, it's started a bit already but it still looks like a class that could have 1-2 impact players from the get go, the Prep school recruiting will not be as prevalent but he's great with Canada and has established a lot of connections over the years, look at the players progression at Clarkson, year in year out he pushed his teams to be better which shows in the NCAA tournament berths, the landscape of college hockey has completely changed since those days but I'm sure he will adapt quickly as he had to all the time at Clarkson, he could potentially have mellowed out over the years and I for one can only assume that's the case. Think it's a HR hire but obviously everyone has their opinion that's just mine.

Gonna be a lot of butthurt SLU fans

Butthurt about what? Morris specifically?

Personally, I don't HATE the hiring of Morris specifically, but I don't LOVE it. I think/hope that he'll be very successful and change my mind, but only time will tell.

It's a much different landscape than the one he left more than a decade ago. Going to have to win recruiting battles and, more importantly, keep the promising recruits that are in the pipeline.

Ya. I was under the impression a lot of fans were totally against morris.

Eh, there are some that hate it, some that aren't necessarily thrilled about it, like myself, and others that LOVE it (some Alums, most townies). Atleast that's been my findings/feelings based on various social media outlets/discussions.

You are correct. And you are obviously free to believe he is the best option of the three finalists. But at the same time people can be strongly opposed to this move without it being trivialized as "butthurt." I think almost everyone understands that Morris has had a lot of on-ice success everywhere he's been. There's more to this than meets the eye, and there's more at stake for many people than just wins and losses. They are important, but they're not everything . . . and it's not necessarily true that another candidate couldn't have been at least as successful. You are right that his track record in terms of winning compares favorably with the other names that were leaked by the committee.

Vocal minority doesn't over rule the silent majority

They hired the right guy

Handful saying otherwise 50 times changes nothing

Great hire that gives instant credibility to program.

I'm not sure how you know the minds of everyone who's not speaking up here. There are vocal and silent fans on both sides.

They hired the right guy

In your opinion, which is fine. Not in everyone's.

Handful saying otherwise 50 times changes nothing

It's much more than a handful: the vast majority of SLU fans don't post on this forum. But regardless of the number, or whether or not it changes anything, people are entitled to support or oppose the decision as they choose.

Great hire that gives instant credibility to program.

The program is already credible. It will continue to be credible under Morris and it would have continued to be credible if they had hired someone else.

Heck...whomever it is, fans should support the team. I doubt the past incident will hurt recruiting, Hurlbut has always done a great job and Morris's pro time will be attractive for kids wanting to go pro.

St. Lawrence will introduce Mark Morris as its new head coach at 4 p.m. (ET) today. Coached Clarkson from 1988-2002. 9 NCAA appearances

Morris it is officially unless there is a last minute shocker in Canton.

Nah, it's happening.

St. Lawrence University- All your abusive coaches belong to us!

When there becomes a basketball opening, I hope Bobby Knight is on the short list. He'd be a lock!

Here is my thoughts on this hire. Tremendous hire by SLU. Proven coach and winner who can recruit up in North Country. He may do things different than Carvel but he should get results. Morris wants to retire in this job in my view (give SLU 10-12 years of service). He's 58 now that will take him to 68 or 70. The other two candidates while they have good resumes may only have used SLU as a stepping stone to something bigger and this could be a big reason why Morris got the job along with having both pro and college experience.
